I think there's a high rise in the area, but I don't know the name. They are building the container park downtown, The Smith Center is doing well, and the Fremont Street Experience and Fremont East have gotten too popular for their own good. I think UTE's strip high rise is on the north end of the strip (I could be wrong) and that would give you easy access to the strip and downtown. A 2-fer.

Never mind me, I have an aversion to modern construction. My eyes would be on that older high rise part of the Las Vegas Country Club. Yes, it's older, perhaps 60's/70's construction, but I'm in love with that era of construction. And you're closer to grocery stores, where you could almost walk it!

Yes, even at Turnberry, or Panorama, or any of those high rises in the Strip area, or downtown, you'll need a car to get to the grocery store, or find a grocery store that delivers to your condo.

That problem, lack of grocery amenities, is not confined to Las Vegas. I had a Loft Condo in downtown Minneapolis in the early 1990's, and I still needed a car to drive 3-4 miles to a big grocery store. And after all these years, more and more condo's, they still can't bring a big grocery store to downtown Mpls.

I certainly wouldn't buy a unit in one of the west towers at Turnberry Place, or any unit, where'd I have to look out at that 64-story, unfinished eyesore with the windows popping out. I don't understand why the Turnberry Place Condo Association hasn't pressured the Clark County Commissoners to either tear that eyesore down or light a fire under Icahn to finish it!

From a residential standpoint proximity to the strip is not as desirable as you may think. The strip generally exists to service tourists. Many (possibly most) have little to do with it, except to work there. The better residential areas tend to be off the strip, generally, but not always, distributed around the I-215 Beltway.

Also, while there are some high rises in Metro Vegas, most seemed positioned as vacation homes for out of towners. Tunberry is a prime examples of this. For owner occupied housing, the primary form factor is the detached (but closely spaced) single family house.

For location and proximity to the strip, Panorama is much better than Turnberry. But both seem more aimed at second home or pied a terre type living more than full time permanent residences. I am sure both places have plenty of full time residents, but not compared to high rises in less tourist-centric locations. For luxury high rise living and better proximity to suburban type amenities, I would choose Queensridge Towers. They are a lot farther from the Strip, but I bet you would like living there a lot more and driving an extra 10-15 minutes when you wanted to go to the Strip. As for downtown, check out the Ogden. It looks pretty nice.

From what I have heard those condo owners are now complaining about the unfinished ugly behemoth Fontainebleau, so there might be some news on that tower soon. Hope it gets torn down. It is an ugly building and the Stratosphere lost its nice view of the Strip because of it.

I have been inside one of the condos at the Las Vegas Country Club, spacious with a nice view and it has floor to ceiling mirrors in the living room area.

Thanks for the advice. Queensridge looks amazing but i dont think they have any 1 bedroom units. I dont want to pay for an extra bedroom since I'm living alone. Ogden looks like it could be a cool place but a lot of the reviews online complain that its kind of like a Zappos dorm room. I guess that could be both good or bad. a couple of the reviews claimed that that the valet and other staff give preferrential treatment to zappos employees and people involved in Downtown Project. I don't know how true that is but I did read it a couple times.

UGH so much to think about. So many options

You heard wrong. The buildings are secure and the walk to freemont is well lit, well traveled, and well patrolled.

There are homeless but they are harmless.

Thieves are not breaking into the Juhl or the Odgen to get your Xbox.

I like downtown because it's mostly young professionals...a well heeled and educated crowd.

prolly true....zappos is lieka cult around here...tony this and tony that...I dont eat from Zappos so i can care less...but what does the Odgen's valet staff giving preferential treatment to Zappos folk have to do with you...like they wont give you your mail or send your visitors up Tip them 20 a month and you will be an honorary zappos dude with the valet.

The Ogden would be way too noisy for me! The music drifting up from those nightclubs on Fremont East, no thanks!

Well I'm sure if you live in a high end place with security people wont be breaking into your place but you still cant argue that downtown has a high crime rate. Downtown living is starting to look more appealing. Who lives down there besides the zappos people?
