Thanks to all who have replied so far, and yes above a
100 is hot and degrees above that dictate what to do and where to be. One of my favorite T shirts was in Arizona years ago, with a skeleton leaning up against a cactus in the desert with an empty canteen next to him, and the caption read: "But it's a dry heat!" Yah, right. I've been to Myrtle Beach in July/August, and let me tell you, I'll take Vegas anytime over that humidity. All your points are well taken. And bang for buck, the NW gets the nod. As for our jobs, suffice to say one is in Real Estate and one in high end retail sales. One can always find work, it's just what we're willing to do and for what salary. I've only drawn unemployment once in my life for a very short time, thank God, but I also was raised that if it took two jobs to put food on the table and make the rent, that's what you did, and if one of those was flipping burgers at McDonalds, then you did that as well. Nobody "owes" us anything. IMHO, a job is a privilege, not a right.
Anyway, thanks again, and I look forward to more info on this forum. All good stuff!
Galen

Hey MomMom,

I posted a general reply but not sure that I did it right, but suffice to say, our jobs are in Real Estate and high end retail sales.

Down in Anthem Highlands (Henderson), Google Earth reports my elevation at about 3100 ft, which is about a 1K higher in elevation than the strip. My car's thermometer typically shows about a 6-8 degree drop in temperature from 215 @ Eastern as you drive south on Eastern climbing the hill.
I've noticed this too. I've also noticed the elevation change as I drive the 215 from one side of town to the next. As I am going up and down in elevation I will actually feel my sinuses drain, like when you are driving through the mountains. I spent the first 30 years living in the far, far northwest side of town thinking that everything east and south looked smoggy. I could clearly see my mountains but not theirs. I spent the next decade living on the south side of town, where the east and south looked clear, and then looking northwest it looked all smoggy. It's really the center of town, that lies the lowest and is the most concrete jungle, most condensed and has the most traffic. Once you can get anywhere outside of the 215, whether it's south, southeast, west, northwest......you climb back up in elevation. I know when I was shopping at the district, driving on Horizon Ridge or up in Mission Hills, I was looking "down" on Vegas, just like when I lived up at Summerlin or Lone Mountain. Stay outside the 215 and it's a bit better.

My family resides in the 89129 area in the NW, I like how it is definitely cooler at night during the summer but at daytime you cannot tell the difference. At the end of the street in my sisters neighborhood, the hills are visible, I love it during colder than normal Winter season, the hills are covered in snow, beautiful sight.

When it is 110 outside, it doesn't matter a damn bit if it is "a little cooler" here vs there.

it's also cooler in areas that still have real landscaping....drive down Paradise Rd some nite...put the windows down as you go south past the Hilton..... feel the heat.....then as you cross DI Rd.... feel the instant drop in temperature....
