I still only trust the neighborhood crime view map on Metro's website...they list everything.

This one from Trulia seems to have the yellow, orange and reds in all the correct and locally well known places though.

This is true, they have all the well known crime areas down pat I think

I'll have to take a look at Metro's crime map, I havent seen that one.

Interesting thing about crimes that occur outside the "hotbeds of crime" aka crimes that occur in more affluent areas, someone told me Seven Hills, Green Valley, and the McDonald Ranch areas have VERY HIGH property crime rates

But I haven't done any personal research on that one

Post New Here...

Hello, I signed up just to comment on this great thread!

My wife and I moved here about 3 years ago and ended up in a nice looking neighborhood... that turned out to be in a total dump.

I did my research when we moved again so we could TRY to avoid making the same mistake. The new Trulia map is good for specific high crime areas but I found that the old color-coded, area code maps (donohueteam), speak volumes about which neighborhoods are the best (and the worst). It would be nice to see updated versions for 2011.

A general rule of thumb that I learned is that the further away from the inner-city you get, the nicer it gets. Less graffiti, police sirens, crime and other urban decay that you have to deal with. I've found that the west side (west of Buffalo) is pretty decent for the most part but... it still depends where you live.

We got a place a few blocks west of Buffalo and we loved it. New management just came in though and decided it would be a great idea to turn it into hood rat central. Time to move again...

Anyways, another map that I found for crime in Vegas (neighborhood scout) goes by area code and may be worth taking a look at. To my shock and awe, the area code that we live in (89117) used to be a great area (according to this map) and now it's one of the highest crime areas in Vegas! They're info doesn't seem to match up very well with the Trulia map. Wishful thinking maybe?

I'll post some links and let you decide:

Back when we lived in 89117 from 2000 to 2004, it was a nice place to live. Sorry to see it going downhill. That's too pretty of an area to let it go to waste.

You folks might want to look at the zip codes that have the highest per capita media income. The nicest neighborhoods are those where the people with money live. Just a fact of life.

The website is anecdotal, but very little crime in the dreaded North Las Vegas.

There seems to be so many categorized as "Other Disturbance" almost everywhere. I wonder what that specifically could be?

Unfortunately, that's not illegal.

If it was, I'd still own the "other" half of my stuff.

I don't think the map is working. Note the East/West disparity along the middle of The Strip corridor. Dead wrong.
