The artist Jonathan Yeo might have used just a dash too much red paint when painting the King's portrait.

The portrait will be on public view at the Philip Mould Gallery on Pall Mall in London until the 14th June 2024, Mondays to Fridays, from 9.30am until 5.30pm. Entry is free. Booking is not required.

I like it too. Dramatic enough that it stirs and invites conversation about the art itself.

The artist has given the King's portrait the renaissance man classic treatment.

I'd like an opportunity for closer study, but I'm initially put off by the spectral quality of the portrait. I don't understand the meaning of the disembodied head, as if he were peering out from behind a gauzy curtain. There's a certain tentativity to his presence, which is entirely contrary to the traditional portrayal of a monarch...they are meant to emphasize a king/queen's presence, not de-emphasize it.

It reminds me of the portrait of Vigo the Carpathian in Ghostbusters II. Very unfortunate.

Somehow, it didn't improve his looks any. Yikes.
