What's so great about the scenery of Austin when you have the Philly area which spans 4 different states for natural scenery.
So is this truly about being reasonable or is it simply about wanting people to see Philly the same way you do? I think you need to admit that you are just as biased as anyone would claim Austin is the better city.

Personally, I gave Philly the edge in scenery simply because I love trees, but, as far as I know, Austin is more famous for its scenery and is known for being more of an outdoorsy city.

Again- not everyone has the same views about what they like in a city. Just because Philly is better in those areas doesn't make it better for everyone. It's all subjective. Maybe entertainment for someone is a bar on 6th st, a UT game, or a kayaking trip down the Colorado river.. Or maybe an eagles game, or a historic museum. See.. It's subjective. You might like a Philly cheesesteak and someone else might like brisket. Cool.

Texans rarely start these threads though.

Texans usually compare Texas cities against other Texas cities or against other cities in the south.

I like Austin better than philly. From the culture, scenery, sexy women, food, weather, economy, crime etc. Philly is a more established city. Austin is starting to come along. Philly has good food and history and culture. I still like Austin better. Less gang activity too.

And all that is perfectly fine. Liking one or another is correct to the individual no doubt.

A question though, do you believe gang activity impacts more than say .01% of people living in Philadelphia? I don't hang out in the bad parts of North Philly

If I were in my 20s I might like Austin better maybe not, Philly has improved dramatically since my 20s so who knows today.

What if someone wanted to hang out in North Philly? They would have to worry about crime.

yes certain parts, not all

but why would they, honestly - it is pretty isolated, not good highway access mostly (part of the original issue actually) and for the most part one would have to make the trip to actually venture in. Not many reasons to go there really sadly - some great old architecture, much in disrepair. There is Temple - campus and area have improved dramatically and Temple hospital which you can get to easy enough either by subway or car by staying in areas fine to travel through.

So in this straw man argument you propose, assuming in Austin one would seek to hang in it worst area as well. There are so many (more) areas in Philly in this comparison I just don't see that rationale as substantive in that my question how does gang violence in the bad lands impact the VAST majority of those living in Philly (NYC, LA, Chicago, etc.) and the region - will say that the crime does create more usage of service though so a cost, plus is not something to be proud and absolutely an issue - schools, crime, extra police, medical services etc. So ye that is a tangible impact

While an extreme comparison I could say I don't want to live in Austin as crazy people attack police stations or drive drunk in the college bar (yes it really is a college extension area in many ways) areas the wrong way and run people over. Would be equally silly in many respects as these are not the factors that impact the vast majority of residents on a day to day basis.

And if you want to go to North Philly have at it
