Boston may be a surprising choice, but hey it's still pretty fantastic. Congratulations Boston! The city may have come on top because the committee uses a borda count to get to the winner rather than pure majority. You rank the cities and they get points, so in the end you get a consensus candidate rather than the most popular one. In a high stakes battle where every city is gunning, Boston was the likely competitor city all the others hated least.

Yeah, Sochi really took the dignity away from the games in that manner. But I wonder how much throwaway infrastructure London had leftover when it hosted.

Boston has a long and legendary sports history with lots of heartache and triumph. The sports franchises there are celebrated religiously, and Bostonian sports fans are unfailingly loyal. New England also has a rich variety of outdoor activity to partake in year round. This decision will likely get beaten down by the NIMBY's as there is no doubt a lot of shady business in the IOC. However, when it comes down to sportsmanship in the US, Boston has a spirit and a soul like no other. In that sense it could very well be a very accommodating city for the Olympic Games.
I feel like DC should stop bidding for the games. The analyst have bought up some very valid points about DC. It will never win an international competion to host the Olympic Games. If DC is hated as much as it is in our own country, I can only imagine how much DC must be hated internationally. It probably doesn't matter what we do, people will always overlook the people who live here and focus on congress and the president.

What? People generally seem to love DC. Lol. I've spoken to many people on the topic of the city and everyone has either wanted to visit or has something positive to say about their experience there

The Nation does not hate its capital. Many resent what happens there, but that's entirely different. Internationally, perhaps.

People who love density and urban cities yes. People into politics nationwide and internationally, no! That was the main thing the analyst were talking about in relationship to DC's bid. Too much international disgust associated with DC. Most people forget the city is more than the White House and Capitol. Nothing we can do about that though. Maybe one day it will change.
