Madison about 2:30... the liquid precip turned solid a couple of hours ago, so I went out and spread salt on the inch or so of yeccchhhh that had accumulated on the driveway. Left it to soak in for 30 minutes or so, then the spouse, daughter and I went back and attacked it with the ice spud, shovels, and (for the 4" of ice at the foot of the driveway) the pick-axe.

The piles alongside the driveway are now crowned with a ridge of ice chunks, but they're rapidly being covered by the snow, which has turned from big wet flakes into those tiny wind-driven pellets that sting your face and get in your eyes. At least they've got mostly bare cement to land on, rather than the inch of ice that would have been the foundation had we not tackled it when we did.

I'm gonna be one sore puppy tomorrow....

I haven't ventured out at all. 3:00 p.m. snow is finally coming down but I'm not sure it will stick. Considering all the sleet this a.m. snow on top of it will be pretty tricky. I think I need to get off the couch and out with some salt!

Hey Midwesternbookworm -

Can you do me a favor and drive that pick-axe through my skull??!! Seriously, I am so done with this winter!

I don't know what bothers me worse...the enormous snow (which is very pretty to see when it is coming down but then causes days to get SO COLD and the streets so BAD to drive in) or this AM through now (4:30pm CT) in the Milwaukee area where it has just been doggone gray, raining, wet, melty...thus...sloppy and slushy and overall just drippy...

When does May get here again!

Anyhow, I'm cozy and warm indoors and as long as someone ELSE is handling my driveway I'm perfectly fine with some more snow. It's good for the lake levels when the spring runoff comes. And it's kind of an adventure.

This will be the first time we've used him. We called and told him to wait until morning if that worked for his schedule. He sounded happy about that.

On a side note. Someone strolled up our driveway this afternoon and stole a shovel that DH had leaning against the side of the house. In broad daylight. Nice.

Still snowing here!! I've decided to give up trying to dig my mail box out after today. Mind you, at least the plow hasn't plowed it away like my neighbors!

We had about 10 inches yesterday in northwest Sauk County. Decided not join Mother Nature and went sledding down the hill in the back yard onto the frozen lake.
