Default Aftermarket throttle body failures

Has anyone had this happen to them? What were your symptoms and solutions?

Heads / cam and Maggie 2300 car here with a Soler 107. Has been perfect for the last couple of years (~ 15k miles) until recently. Now the car will occasionally feel like it is bucking while cruising at a constant RPM and every now and then will rev on its own. Idle RPM remains good though. Problem is it doesn't happen all the time, very random and feels unsafe to drive when it does. Planning on going to a NW 103 next week.

I have seen some posts mention that these aftermarket TBs for the LT4 are susceptible to failures. Considering an OEM ZR1 95mm if the aftermarket TBs don't work out.

Just trying to get some real world info.

Curious to see what feedback you get. I’ve read of just enough failures and issues like you’re describing to not pull the trigger on purchasing one myself

I've seen a ton of NW103 failures and a single Soler 107 failure but that Soler was one of the first run production models. Mike has made improvements since. The Soler was repairable. One of the solder joints for the connection pins came loose and caused intermittent issues. Resoldered and problem was solved. This setup was on solid motor mounts and 900+ rwhp and created a lot of vibrations. Not sure if that was the cause of the solder joint failure or not.

You should contact Mike and send it back for inspection.

We use Soler TB's now since we had so many NW 103's fail. It was a "rumor" that NW was using cheap electronics or got a bad batch, which was the cause of most of the failures. Then has since changed away from this TPS module source to something more reliable. No idea if any of this is true or not. I just heard it on one of the popular YouTube channels and no idea if that person had any factual information either. But they had a bunch of NW103 failures as well.

If you don't want to take any chances, you can get the ported 95mm (100mm effective) and an adaptor plate from Soler. You will likely see a little power fall off up top vs the 103/107's but it would likely be more reliable if that is your main priority. Or you can make a TB swap kit with the tools needed and a spare TB and throw it in your trunk just in case.

My NW103 would be jerky at steady cruise then set off a code and went into reduced power mode. I sent it back to Nick Williams and they did repair it but I bought a Solar 103 in the meantime. If you are looking for a NW103 that has been repaired and updated I have one available for sale

I always thought my nw tb failure was a one off thing, but after reading this I have my suspicions. I'm using a solar tb for the past 5 years, cross my fingers nothing happens to it.

Thanks for the replies.

That's a good idea Internet Ninja. I think I will try and get a hold of Mike and send him mine. BTW, the 107 I have is one of the early ones.

Of course I am not 100% sure if the TB failed or not. No codes were ever thrown. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how the NW works out. Fingers 🤞.
