Jaime Reyes’ time as Blue Beetle may continue — in animated form.
Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing an animated series based on the DC Comic character. The potential show would follow on the 2023 feature film, which starred Xolo Maridueña as the title character, who gains super powers after an alien Scarab fuses with his body.
Miguel Puga (Nickelodeon’s The Casagrandes) is serving as showrunner and director on the animated project, with Cristian Martinez (Good Trouble) writing. The Blue Beetle film’s writer, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, and director, Angel Manuel Soto, are on board as executive producers, as are John Ricard and Galen Vaisman; both were EPs on the movie, and Vaisman will oversee the series project for DC Studios.
Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios declined comment.

The weekend’s big theatrical release is Disney and Pixar’s ‘Inside Out 2,’ but if that’s not your cup of tea, there are some great choices to watch at home on all the major streaming services. Here are IMDb’s picks for the best things to stream this weekend.
“Presumed Innocent” on Apple TV+
If this legal thriller seems familiar to you it's probably because there have been many incarnations over the years, from Scott Turow's bestselling novel in 1987 and the 1990 box office hit starring Harrison Ford, to made-for-television sequels in 1992 and 2011. David E. Kelly and J.J. Abrams team up to bring an updated version to the screen with Jake Gyllenhaal taking on the role of Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor accused of murder. The miniseries premiered its first two episodes on Wednesday, with new episode dropping weekly.
“House of the Dragon” on Max
Time needed to be spent setting the table in the first season of “Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon” to introduce the Targaryen ancestors and their complex family dynamics. The second season promises to deliver some fireworks, as the civil war between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon II takes center stage. An uptick in action and an abundance of dragons should help boost the show's popularity after a successful maiden launch. If there is any doubt in your mind whether to continue (or start) the series, know that there’s a just-announced third season in the works.
“Bridgerton” on Netflix
The final four episodes of Season 3 are streaming on Netflix, and will deliver on the promise of that Episode 4 cliffhanger and learn what follows after Colin’s proposal to Pen. As their slow-burn romance comes to a conclusion, “Bridgerton” fans are already speculating as to which characters will be in the spotlight for Season 4, which—based on the show’s production history—likely won’t arrive until 2026.
“The Boys” on Prime Video
Fans are eager to dive into Season 4 of “The Boys” this weekend, with the first three episodes now streaming. Newcomers Valorie Currie and Susan Heyward are the latest supes to jump into the fray (as Firecracker and Sister Sage, respectively), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“The Walking Dead”) joins the cast as an old colleague of Butcher. Savor the show while it lasts; “The Boys” was just renewed for its fifth and final season.
‘Brats’ on Hulu
Andrew McCarthy directs this documentary about the group of young stars branded as the “Brat Pack” in the 1980s. McCarthy tracks down the Brat Pack cohort—which include himself, Molly Ringwald, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, and others—to reflect on the impact the label (and Hollywood) had on them. A must see for ‘80s kids, you can stream it on Hulu now.

The upcoming third season of “Power Book IV: Force” will be its last, according to star Joseph Sikora. But the actor is teasing that a new project could come to the “Power” universe soon — and Variety has confirmed that one is in development.

Jimmy Fallon has renewed his deal with NBCUniversal, holding onto his position as the host of “The Tonight Show” through 2028.
The extension comes just after Fallon’s 10-year anniversary on the show, which NBC celebrated with a two-hour primetime special on May 14.
Fallon has been an NBC mainstay since 1998, when he joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live.” He remained on the late night sketch show for six seasons, hosting “Weekend Update” alongside Tina Fey from 2000 to 2004, at which point he left the show to pursue a film career. While Nick Kroll’s eight-season-long coming-of-age animated comedy “Big Mouth” may be approaching finality, the writer and voice actor behind over 70 characters on the show doesn’t believe there aren’t more stories to tell. In a similar way to how Michael Apted’s “Up” series or even the recent “Inside Out 2” handles how one grows into an adult, Kroll thinks it makes sense for “Big Mouth” to follow its characters throughout life as well.
“The beauty of telling stories about kids who are evolving is that it never gets tired,” Kroll said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “And you’re always finding new elements, new stories to tell and new emotions for those kids … because the show itself does not stand still, it makes it more gratifying to perform.”

As broadcast networks continue to mine familiar IP for its new offerings, CBS is rolling out an updated version of the 1986-1995 legal drama Matlock. And taking over for the late Andy Griffith in the title role is Academy Award winner Kathy Bates. The new Matlock, originally set for a 2023 bow, won’t premiere until this fall, but hype is already building. The pilot was reportedly one of the best CBS execs had seen, and recurring star Beau Bridges has been loving watching Bates work her magic. “She’s going to be great in this,” he told Deadline in March. “She’s really funny. It’s hard for me to keep a straight face with her. She’s great.” Here’s the need-to-know info about the new Matlock. CBS ordered a pilot for the series in January 2023 CBS gave the green light to the new Matlock project in January 2023 as...

Losing a child is difficult for anyone, but losing one based on the actions of another family member can be downright biblical. Throw in a dragon for good measure, and you can imagine the complicated emotions Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra must navigate while still seeking her rightful place on the throne. What “House of the Dragon” has always offered in contrast to and in conjunction with “Game of Thrones” is its decades-long investigation of one family’s internal and external conflict. It’s a more intimate and specific narrative that allows for deeper emotional examinations, and that’s what D’Arcy clung to as they prepared for the second season of the hit HBO TV series.
“I think grief is a major engine in the narrative this season,” D’Arcy said in a recent interview with Vogue. “That was a key area of investigation for me, because grief manifests so differently in different people.

Morgan Freeman isn’t a fan of Black History Month.
“I detest it. The mere idea of it. You are going to give me the shortest month in a year? And you are going to celebrate ‘my’ history?! This whole idea makes my teeth itch. It’s not right,” he tells Variety.
“My history is American history. It’s the one thing in this world I am interested in, beyond making money, having a good time and getting enough sleep.”
Having exec produced Civil War series “The Gray House” alongside Lori McCreary through Revelations Entertainment, the past is very much on Freeman’s mind.

The Deadliest Catch family has lost another member. Nick Mavar, a deckhand from the Discoveryshow, died on Thursday, June 13, at age 59. Mavar died after a medical emergency Thursday afternoon at a boatyard in Naknek, Alaska, Bristol Bay Police Chief Jeffrey Eldie informed Deadline. Paramedics took Mavar to a local hospital, where he was declared dead of natural causes, the police chief added. Between 2005 and 2021, Mavar appeared in nearly 100 episodes of Deadliest Catch, serving as deckhand aboard Sig Hansen’s F/V Northwestern. British actor Stephen Fry remembers being about 10 years old in the late 1960s when he first saw a production of Oscar Wilde’s play “The Importance of Being Earnest” on television.
He immediately checked out the “Complete Works of Oscar Wilde” from the mobile library that visited his town in rural England.

Jimmy Kimmel marked Donald Trump’s 78th birthday in fittingly unceremonious fashion, listing his favorite 78 nicknames for the businessman-turned-politician — who’s running for president again while awaiting sentencing after his conviction on 34 felony counts. “Trump had a low-key birthday celebration — he reportedly spent the night at home, quietly spanking himself with a magazine,” Kimmel said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Friday, June 14, riffing on Stormy Daniels’ testimony that she used a magazine to spank Trump. Then Kimmel got to the nicknames. “You know, I have to admit, Donald Trump has given a lot to our show, and I wanted to do something special for him because I know he watches from time to time,” the late-night comedian said. “Over the last, seems like, I don’t know, 28 years since he got into politics, we’ve come up with a lot of nicknames for Donald Trump. Never mind that Season 12 finale conversation between Boden (Eamonn Walker) and Herrmann (David Eigenberg) on Chicago Fire. It sounds like Herrmann won’t succeed Boden as chief after all. Sources close to the NBC production tell Deadline that a new character named Dom Pascal (for the time being) will be Firehouse 51’s new battalion chief. According to the report, Pascal is “began his career with the Cfd but spent the last decade as a chief in sunny Miami.” He and his wife are estranged, but he’s “a cheerful person who works well under pressure and whose leadership style differs from Boden’s.” Casting for the role — a series regular part on the firefighter drama — is currently underway, Deadline adds. The Season 12 finale certainly made it seem like the battalion chief job was going to Herrmann, pictured below — as Boden, pictured above, considered a deputy commissioner job he ultimately got.

Vicars come and vicars go in the genteel murder capital of PBS‘s Grantchester. But as long as Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (veteran British TV star Robson Green) stays on duty, all will be right in this Cambridge village where we have faith that every crime will be solved through collaboration between the lawman who collars the perps and the man of God who wears the collar. “I hear you have a thing for vicars,” says new clergyman Alphy Kottaram (the instantly appealing Rishi Nair), the third in nine seasons, who’s introduced in this year’s third episode, scheduled for June 30. Alphy’s joking with Geordie, sort of, but the fact is that one of the key aspects that makes this long-running Masterpiece mystery series so satisfying is the evolution of Geordie, a gruff change-resistant World War II veteran who has grown under the influence of these men: first...

It’s been two years since Season 1 of “House of the Dragon” debuted, which is a long time to spend away from House Targaryen, its divided allies and enemies, and a whole buncha dragons. Who do we like, who do we hate, who’s married to their brother or uncle or just a casual cousin once removed?
Season 1 of “House of the Dragon” began during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine), chronicling the last decade and change of his life before he died of an unidentified wasting disease. After his first wife and son died, Viserys named his daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) as the rightful heir, overturning a council ruling that actually put Viserys on the throne in the first place and rattling minds across the realm. You don’t need to be a parent to love Bluey, one of the most popular shows airing today. The Australian animated series, which first premiered on ABC Kids in 2018 before internationally streaming on Disney+, has become a cultural phenomenon — kids and adults alike just can’t seem to get enough of the anthropomorphic Blue Heeler puppy, her loving parents Chilli (Melanie Zanetti) and Bandit (David McCormack), and adorable younger sister Bingo (not to mention those darn cousins Muffin and Socks!).
Although Bluey herself is undoubtedly the star of the show, her father Bandit has also cemented his status as an internet icon. He’s not only known for his “Oh, biscuits!” catchphrase and silly nature, but also for his (mostly) excellent parenting.

When Donald Glover first approached showrunner Francesca Sloane about adapting “Mr. & Mrs. Smtih” for Amazon Prime, she “started laughing,” and thought it was a “weird Donald Glover joke that he randomly spit out.” She was confused as to why he would pick the 2005 action-comedy of all movies, but as the conversation evolved, the project began taking shape in her mind.
“We discussed why people get married, what is it like to fight for somebody, how would it be to take this big blockbuster hit and use our sensibilities of quiet moments and filter that throughout the series,” Sloane explained. “And also,...

In the final episode of “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show,” Jerrod Carmichael watches a scene from earlier in the show, in which he argues with his mother about his sexuality.
“Even if God doesn’t accept homosexuality, that still doesn’t erase your heart,” says his mom, a devout Christian, while trying to connect with her son. Then: “Whether you’re a murderer, sinner or chose to live the gay life, I love you just the way you are.”
Carmichael doesn’t exactly take it the right way: “Ok cool, my mom accepts me as she would accept Jeffrey Dahmer.”

Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Westeros where we lay our scene. It’s a Targaryen civil war in House of the Dragon Season 2, a war that will determine the fates of the ruling family of the Seven Kingdoms, and the stakes could not be more Shakespearean if George R. R. Martin tried. The Game of Thrones spinoff returns for its highly anticipated second season on Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c on HBO and Max (it’s already been renewed for Season 3), and with the new season comes the aftermath of the tragic death of Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault) seen in the Season 1 finale. Luke’s uncle, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), didn’t mean to kill his nephew, but his lust for retribution over his lost eye in childhood fueled his attack on dragon back. Vhagar went rogue and killed the young boy and his dragon, Arrax. Had this not occurred,...

“Is this the fanciest award show? No! But it will be one of the shortest,” he said. “If you found street parking, you won’t need to refill the meter!”
Edelman went on to introduce the esteemed group of TV artists being honored, which included
Carol Burnett, Quinta Brunson, Issa López, Lulu Wang, Riley Keough, Dakota Fanning, Francesca Sloane, John Mulaney, Fisher Stevens, and the duos of Matt Bomer and Ron Nyswaner, and Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski. And while he heaped plenty of praise on the group’s artistic achievements, he also had a laugh about one of his own past encounters with an unnamed honoree.
