About Us - The Israel Nature and Parks Authority

Who Are We?


The Israel Nature and Parks Authority was established as two entities (which were unified in 1998), based on a law passed by the Knesset in 1963, for the purpose of fulfilling the goals of the National Parks Law, the Nature Reserves and Commemoration Sites Law and the Wildlife Protection Law.

Our Vision

  • The Israel Nature and Parks Authority protects treasures of nature, landscape and heritage and connects people to places, fostering affinity to the Land of Israel in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence.
  • The Israel Nature and Parks Authority protects nature, including habitats, ecosystems, and plant and animal diversity in nature reserves, national parks and open spaces.
  • The Israel Nature and Parks Authority works to preserve and manage the special look of typical landscapes throughout the country for the benefit of all inhabitants, while protecting the balance between economic, social, cultural and environmental needs. The Israel Nature and Parks Authority works to protect treasures of heritage and culture in national parks and nature reserves, while developing these sites, adding interpretive elements and upgrading visitor accessibility.
  • The Israel Nature and Parks Authority believes in the relationship between people and the treasures of nature, landscapes and heritage in this country. The Authority works toward building an ever-stronger relationship with the public, to cooperate with and educate the public toward greater appreciation of the values of nature, landscape and heritage.
  • The Israel Nature and Parks Authority is a partner in forging a national policy for the protection of the values of nature, landscape and heritage, in cooperation with colleagues in Israel and abroad, now and for future generations.

The Israel Nature and Parks Authority implements extensive conservation and reconstruction of historical and archaeological finds in nature reserves and national parks as well as ongoing maintenance. The Authority works constantly to showcase these assets to the public – to whom they belong – and to strengthen relationships between visitors and the finds. To this end we conduct many educational and folklore activities to bring our sites alive.

The Israel Nature and Parks Authority invests extensively in making nature reserves and national parks accessible to the public, including entrances, trails that vary in difficulty, and trails accessible to persons with disability. We also hold events to encourage people to visit our sites, such as folklore festivals, guided tours, explanatory signs and staffed information stations.
