meet SÉBASTIEN
Born in Aigle, Switzerland, Sébastien Buemi’s first foray into the world of motor racing came in 2004 when he raced in Formula BMW, finishing third in the championship on his debut and second the following year.
From 2005 to 2007, he raced in Formula 3, first in the Spanish series and then in the European. He also took part in the Formula 3 Masters at Zandvoort and the famous Macau Grand Prix. In 2008, he joined the Red Bull Junior Programme and stepped up to GP2. In the Asia Series, he won once and finished second four times to end the championship in second place. In the main series, Sebastien was victorious twice, in the Sprint races in France and Hungary, on his way to sixth in the championship.
In 2009, he walked into the Formula 1 paddock thanks to Scuderia Toro Rosso and raced with us until the end of 2011. He had taken part in 55 Grands Prix and had plenty of F1 experience, which secured him the role of test and reserve driver for Red Bull Racing from 2012.
Sébastien has gone on to have great success in other categories. In 2012, he made his debut in the World Endurance Championship with Toyota, being crowned champion in 2014, 2018 and again in 2019, with three Le Mans 24 Hours wins to his name. Apart from the endurance category, Sébastien is also a winner in Formula E, winning the title with Renault in the 2015-16 season.
In 2020, Sébastien Buemi is still part of the Red Bull family, covering the test and reserve driver role for both Scuderia AlphaTauri and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing.
