Cholera vaccination campaign launched to protect 635,000 people in Cox’s Bazar

9 December 2019 --Over 635,000 Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshi host community will be vaccinated against cholera in a 3-week-long campaign beginning today at the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar and nearby areas, to protect vulnerable population against the deadly disease amidst increasing number of cases of acute watery diarrhoea (AWD).

Measles vaccination drive launched, North Kivu targets 2.2 million children

5 December 2019 Kinshasa – Around 2.2 million children are to be vaccinated against measles in North Kivu, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where efforts are underway to curb the world’s second-worst Ebola outbreak amid persistent insecurity.

WHO Director-General praises bravery of health workers during visit to eastern Democratic Republic of Congo following fatal attacks on Ebola responders

1 December 2019 -- World Health Organization Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus visited health workers affected by recent armed attacks on Ebola response staff that killed four outbreak responders and injured seven others in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dr Tedros called for improved security in the region to protect health workers trying to contain Ebola.

Dead and injured following attacks on Ebola responders in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

28 November 2019 -- Two attacks in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo have killed four workers responding to the Ebola outbreak and injured five others. The attacks occurred overnight on a shared living camp in Biakato Mines and an Ebola response coordination office in Mangina.

WHO scales up cholera vigilance in Khartoum, Sudan

5 November 2019, Khartoum, Sudan -- To prevent a potential spread of the current cholera outbreak to Khartoum State – including to the country’s capital Khartoum City – and at the request of the Federal Minister of Health Dr Akram Eltoum, WHO is working closely with health partners, nongovernmental organizations, and at-risk communities to ensure that suspected cases are quickly identified and responded to, and that people can effectively protect themselves from infection.
