Germany contributes an additional €3 million to the CFE

7 October 2019 -- Germany’s latest contribution brings its total to $11.7 million in 2019 and nearly $41.6 million overall. Germany is the CFE’s largest contributor.

10 September 2019 – PAHO/WHO is working with the Ministry of Health to assess needs and damages. The CFE has released US$1 million to provide emergency to support essential health services, WASH and disease surveillance.

New Zealand joins list of CFE contributors with multi-year commitment

23 July 2019 --Thanks to the Government of New Zealand for its generous NZ$4.5 million multi-year commitment to the CFE. This helps WHO respond quickly to health emergencies and save lives.

WHO scales up activities in Burkina Faso in response to worsening humanitarian situation

15 July 2019 Brazzaville -- The World Health Organization (WHO) is scaling up operations in Burkina Faso in response to a growing humanitarian crisis, which has seen over 200 000 people displaced. WHO is mobilizing experts to strengthen interventions, including preventative and responsive vaccination campaigns and strategies for provision of health services, as well as increasing supplies of medicines and medical equipment.

The CFE has released US$ 352 000 to support emergency health activities.

Confirmation of case of ebola virus disease in Uganda

The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) have confirmed a case of Ebola Virus Disease in Uganda. Although there have been numerous previous alerts, this is the first confirmed case in Uganda during the Ebola outbreak on-going in neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo. US$50,000 was immediately released from the CFE to support rapid assessment and response teams.

WHO distributes urgently needed medical supplies as Libya conflict continues

21 May 2019, Tripoli, Libya—WHO has delivered medicines and medical supplies to health facilities across Libya to meet shortages amid intense conflict in the country’s capital. The shipments, sufficient for more than 600 000 beneficiaries, include emergency medical supplies, trauma kits to treat injured patients, and medicines for chronic and infectious diseases.

The CFE has released US$ 500 000 for emergency medical supplies and technical support to bolster WHO’s emergency health response.

Contingency Fund for Emergencies - Enabling quick action to save lives

The Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE) enables WHO to quickly respond to disease outbreaks and humanitarian crises with health consequences before other donor funding is mobilized. This can stop a health emergency from spiralling out of control, saving resources and lives. In 2018, nearly US$ 38 million was released by the CFE allowing WHO to support health emergencies in 29 countries.

WHO airlifts medical supplies for flood response in Islamic Republic of Iran

10 April 2019 Teheran – The World Health Organization (WHO) today airlifted essential medical supplies to the Islamic Republic of Iran to respond to the growing health needs of thousands of people who have been displaced as a result of heavy flooding in many provinces in the country. The supplies include trauma, health, cholera and non-communicable disease kits and other commodities requested by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

The Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE) gives WHO the resources to respond immediately to disease outbreaks and humanitarian crises with health consequences. The ability to respond quickly – in as little as 24 hours - before other funding is mobilized can stop a health emergency from spiraling out of control, saving lives and resources.
