Loki TV Show Answers Tom Hiddleston's Death & Tesseract Questions

Tom Hiddleston as Loki in Avengers: Endgame

Tom Hiddleston confirms that fans' burning questions about his character's fate will be revealed in the upcoming Loki series. The British actor is famous around the world for playing the God of Mischief and half-brother to Thor in multiple films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hiddleston's character has been a fan favorite ever since his central role in 2012's The Avengers, and audiences were shocked to see Loki killed off in the opening minutes of Avengers: Infinity WarIn the follow-up, Avengers: Endgame, a time travel mission gone wrong resulted in a past version of Loki escaping captivity with the Tesseract, a powerful cosmic device containing an Infinity Stone. Now, Hiddleston admits that the Loki show will explore the fallout of both events.

Hiddleston appeared on Tuesday's episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and despite an intense interrogation by the host, he kept his lips sealed many details. The actor did say, "Two questions I've been asked [are] 'Is Loki really dead?' and 'What is Loki doing with that cube?' This series will answer both of those questions." Earlier this year, Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo confirmed that the Loki who stole the Tesseract "created a branching reality" by doing something so dramatically different from the main MCU timeline. Further, it was confirmed by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con that the TV show will follow Loki from Avengers: Endgame, and that the original Loki did die in Infinity War.

Other than its lead star and the Loki TV show director, very little information has come out thus far on the series development, cast, or production. The show has been set for a Spring 2021 release date on Disney+, along with a slew of Marvel, Star Wars, and other properties coming to the platform later this year and in 2020. Hiddleston also confirmed earlier this year that Loki will be a limited mini-series of six episodes total, and that it would introduce new villains for the God of Mischief to battle and betray.

It seems as though all signs are pointing to Loki's protagonist being a slightly different Loki than the version fans know best, who is almost certainly dead for good. But there could be a chance for other recognizable characters to make an appearance. One theory, hinted at by the Russo Brothers, is that Captain America (Chris Evans), who was tasked with correcting timeline disturbances off-screen at the end of Avengers: Endgame, might make an appearance in the show. As expensive as it may be to bring Evans in as a full supporting cast member, a guest slot or cameo doesn't seem at all out of the question - though the question remains about whether he'd be willing to do it.

Still, as confirmed by Hiddleston in his most recent comments, fans can expect to get some answers from Loki when the series releases on Disney+ in 2021.
