The Order of the Coif is a national law school scholastic honor society. Not more than 10 percent of all graduates may be elected to membership by vote of the faculty. A Reception honoring recipients of the Order of the Coif will be held Friday, May 17, 2019, (exact time and location TBD). The students elected to the Order of the Coif will be notified by a letter that will be e-mailed to them no later than the end of the day on Thursday, May 16.
GRADUATION DAY!
SMU Main Campus Commencement
The SMU main campus graduation ceremonies will take place all day Saturday, May 18, starting with an All-University Commencement Convocation at 9:00 a.m. at Moody Coliseum. Student lineup begins at 7:30 a.m. and the door will close at 8:45 a.m. Law graduates are strongly encouraged to attend. For parking and access to information on the University's commencement ceremonies, click here.
Important - Recently Updated: Because of an unusually large number of students participating in the ALL-UNIVERSITY COMMENCEMENT CONVOCATION on Saturday morning, May 18, the expected large numbers of audience members, and the strong interest from the public in attending graduation this year, SMU will require that all guests, regardless of age, have a ticket. In early May, candidates will be emailed information on new procedures for guest tickets, and security screening requirements for Moody Coliseum. Visit the main campus May Commencement website for additional information.
48th Annual Law School Hooding of Candidates
The Law School Hooding Ceremony will take place outside in the Law School Quad on Saturday, May 18 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. We strongly encourage your family and friends to arrive early as seating is limited. No ticket is required for family and friends to attend the outdoor ceremony. Students who have a Family Hooder will need to arrive at Karcher Auditorium in Storey Hall by 5:15 p.m. for photos with their Family Hooder. View campus map. All graduating students must report to the Pit in Underwood Law Library by 5:30 p.m.
NOTE: As the event draws closer, the graduate will need to check email communications regularly in order to confirm start time and/or other essential details regarding the graduation ceremony. An email will be sent out by 3:00 p.m. the day of the ceremony (May 18) if weather moves the event to Moody Coliseum.
Parking
Parking is available at Daniel Parking Center at the northeast corner of Hillcrest and Daniel (enter from Daniel Avenue). A campus map can be found here.
