Bachelor of Medical Sonography / Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography

This course is a unique four-year combined bachelor degree and postgraduate diploma designed to develop clinical skills. It incorporates extensive clinical experience, allowing students to apply skills and knowledge to real-life situations. The course is taught in state-of-the-art, purpose-built environments using the latest digital technology and simulated learning clinics to ensure graduates are work ready. On completion, graduates are recognised as high-calibre practitioners and accredited sonographers, ready to perform all major types of ultrasound examinations.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent.

Structure:

27 units (192 credit points).

Human Body Systems 1; Study and Research Skills for Health Science; Physics for Health Sciences; Fundamentals of Ultrasound Practice; Professional Practice; Human Body Systems 2; plus more

Further information:

Some units have compulsory residential schools. Many second and third year units include compulsory laboratory sessions. Students must undertake a minimum of 55 weeks of clinical study in the workplace. Clinical placements will be undertaken at a range of locations throughout QLD, NSW and VIC in both metropolitan and rural areas. Not all years of the course are available at all locations. Some units within the course are only available to study online. Due to the number of clinical placements, entry numbers are limited. Recommended Study: Biology, English, Maths, Physics and Science

Recognition:

The Bachelor of Medical Sonography and Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography is accredited by the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR). Students must complete both parts of the program to gain accreditation. The external accreditation body Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry sets the maximum time that individuals may be on the ASAR Registry as a Student Sonographer. This has been set at five years from the date of initial entry onto the registry, meaning students must complete the program of study within five years of student registration date in order to qualify as an accredited Sonographer.
