    The only thing science can do is corroborate or falsify our hunches after we’ve had them. The real insights, the real eureka moments, come from the hunches. To believe that science is the engine of progress is to believe that the methodological tail wags the cognitive dog.

    City needs money for this The Amazon deal would have generated a lot of tax revenue. Its like AOC fucks shit up, then complains that shit it broken

    The subway has been in crisis for some time, and it’s clearly reaching a breaking point. People are supposed to be able to rely on public transit - esp during a heat wave. Robust, transparent public infrastructure investment is needed now more than ever. This can’t continue ⬇️

    Arnade’s Front-Row/Back-Row, Murray’s Belmont/Fishtown, Herman’s Plato/Aristotle, Haidt’s WEIRD/Holisitc, and Sowell’s Unconstrained/Constrained, are different ways to understand the same two underlying aspects of fundamental human nature. And it’s NOT ideology.

    The future of journalism = individuals with GoPros broadcasting straight to social media, bypassing mastheads. So yes, any journalist who relies on a salary from a dated institution would naturally feel somewhat threatened by those who make their own way

    Nobody I’ve read comes close to ’s understanding of the “Coming Apart.” The feeling, the sense, described in these passages, IMO, explains Occupy, BLM, Antifa, Brexit, Trump, and Gilets Juanes, and recent elections in Australia and the EU.

    Viewpoint diversity, or intellectual diversity, if it exists only in the front row - only within the Front Row value system, based only in Front Row credentials - is not real diversity. And what’s more, it IS EXACERBATES the very problem you are trying to solve.
