Eleven suspects jailed on Tuesday following several anti-mafia-raids in four German states will be expelled to Italy as soon as possible, according to an Italian police spokesperson from Crotone.

The suspects are between 36 and 61 years old. They were wanted on EU-wide arrest warrants of arrest. The raids were focussed on two` N'drangheta clans, the Farao and Marincola families.

"For years the legislation in Germany was especially friendly for criminals. Just in recent months, important steps have been taken as far as the legislation is concerned. And this is particularly welcome because organized crime is now active all over Europe and prefers the very countries and areas where the most money can be made. On the one hand with their criminal business, and on the other hand, places where it is easy to launder money are preferred. And Germany has been an ideal place for it so far," said Anti-Mafia Commissioner Laura Garavini.

Italian organised crime has been particularly keen to inflitrate southern Germany in recent years but it is far from being the only target market for the Mafia, Cosa Nostra, Comorra or N'drangheta gangs.
