Students' Union

"To be the best Union for students in all that we do, together"

The University of Derby Students’ Union is a registered charity led by students, for students. Every single one of you makes up the Union, and you’re automatically a member when you start your studies.  Although we often work together, we’re completely separate from the University, and whether you’re after activities, representation, volunteering opportunities, employability, help & advice or just an ice-cold post-lecture pint, we’ll be here for you throughout your studies.

We also provide important services including great value amenities and facilities, to a whole range of exciting opportunities and activities to socialise and have fun.

Campus facilities

Your Students’ Union run the shops at each campus, the student bar; The Academy and the coffee shop Blends, which are great places to meet with friends and grab something to eat between lectures. It’s worth noting that as we are a Non-Profit Organisation, revenue generated by Blends, The Academy and all our retail outlets is reinvested into the Students’ Union, and is used to improve the services we provide.

You may prefer to spend your spare time getting involved with activities. There are a whole range of sport teams and societies available for you to join at Derby and Buxton, so whether you’re interested in film, comic books or dance, there is something for everyone. We also offer confidential, free advice through our Help & Advice Service that is independent from the University. All of our Advisors are professional, approachable and will listen to your issues without being judgemental.

Freshers' Fortnight

Every September we have the hugely popular Freshers’ Fortnight.

During the fortnight, you’ll make friends and have lots of fun at sports tournaments, themed nights, barbecues, comedy nights, bowling, pool and quasar sessions, go-karting, Alton Towers, ghost walks, cinema screenings, exercise classes, you name it. As well as traditional favourites such as the Freshers’ Party and the Freshers’ Fair.

Last year was a massive success with the Carnival Party, Alice in Wonderland Freshers’ Ball, UV Party, various day trips and many more events all going down a storm with both Freshers and current students. This year promises to be even better with some exciting new events that will blow you away!

Visit the Students’ Union website to find out more about the exciting opportunities, services and events on offer for you.
