2015 Summer Movies Heading To Your Local Cinemas

13 April 2015 2:37 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

The middle of Spring actually means a new selection of summer blockbusters to look forward to, and with a ton of big-budget films slated to come out within the next few months and beyond, the summer of 2015 looks like one to remember.

From the new Mad Max (which is already on our end-of -year top ten list event though we haven’t yet seen it) to Avengers, Poltergeists, male strippers, talking teddy bears, and a reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise, this summer’s trips to the theaters will be jam-packed with sequels and new tales. From May 1st right through to the end of August, some of the movies on our list could wind up on year-end “best of” lists or even receive some Oscar talk by December.

Grab your calendar, because Wamg has a rundown of this summer’s films we’re most excited about, so check them out below! »

'Zombies' Dated and a Little 'Vacation' from 'Mission: Impossible 5'

31 March 2015 9:23 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I'm not sure what the attraction to July 31 this year is, but a second movie has now left its late year release date to move up into the summer season. First it was Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation moving from Christmas to late July and now Warner Bros. is betting on their Vacation reboot, moving the comedy starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate from October 9 to face off against Mission: Impossible 5 as well as Antoine Fuqua's Southpaw and the Joel Edgerton-directed thriller The Gift In addition to that, Focus Features has finally dated one of their Oscar contenders as Suffragette will open on October 23 pretty much signifying a Toronto premiere is in order while Lionsgate has set a February 19, 2016 release date for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies opposite the Naomi Watts thriller Shut In. »

'Vacation' Remake Gets a New Summer 2015 Release Date

30 March 2015 6:39 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Bros. must have a lot of faith in its upcoming Vacation remake/reboot. The studio has bumped the comedy from it's October 9 release date, opening it a couple of months early. Vacation will now be a summer release, as it is scheduled to hit theaters in July.

July 31, to be exact. This is seen as a bold movie, as the film will now be going up against heavyweight sequel Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation. Also opening on that day are the boxing drama Southpaw starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and The Gift, which marks the directorial debut of Joel Edgerton. Both Southpaw and Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation released trailers last week to much praise.

Vacation stars Ed Helms as Rusty Griswold, the grown-up son of Clark and Ellen. The story follows Rusty, his wife and two sons as they set off on their own road trip for Wally World. Christina Applegate will play Rusty's wife, »

See Rita Ora as a battered drug addict in Jake Gyllenhaal's Southpaw

30 March 2015 4:00 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Rita Ora stars as a bruised and battered drug addict in Jake Gyllenhaal's boxing drama Southpaw.

The singer can be seen in the role in the film's first trailer - which was released last Friday (March 27).

The Voice UK coach is shown opening an apartment door to Gyllenhaal's Billy Hope looking dishevelled and covered in bruises.

The movie follows boxer Billy 'The Great' Hope (Gyllenhaal), whose life unravels after his wife Maureen (Rachel McAdams) is tragically killed. He is left to raise their daughter alone and faces a return to the boxing ring to provide for her.

Gyllenhaal put on 15 pounds of muscle for the gruelling role.

Training Day's Antoine Fuqua directs from a script written by Kurt Sutter.

Speaking about her part to German Glamour magazine, Ora explained: ''It was an incredible experience. Jake made it very easy for me.

Watch Now: Jake Gyllenhaal’s ‘Southpaw’ Trailer Looks Set To Be A Knockout

28 March 2015 11:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

I’m going to put this out there right now –Jake Gyllenhaal ’s performance in Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw has Academy Award Nominee for Best Actor stamped all over it.

With chameleonic fidelity, Gyllenhaal is explosive as the tortured Junior Middleweight World Boxing Champion fighter Billy ‘The Great’ Hope who, after a series of tragic personal setbacks, is forced to fight back and regain the things he has lost.

The first trailer released today exerts a powerfully raw and rough-around-the-edges feeling yet still manages to impart an emotional backbone that will pull at your heartstrings. Add in a strong supporting cast including Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, Tyrese Gibson, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Gibson, Miguel Gomez (The Strain), Beau Knapp (Run All Night), and Rita Ora and some impressive looking ring work and you have a film that has the potential to be sit alongside other great fighting films like The Fighter and Raging Bull. »

Trailer For Southpaw Is Great But Quite Spoilery

27 March 2015 1:55 PM, PDT | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

We have our first proper look at Jake Gyllenhaal's latest leading role in Southpaw, a boxing drama that appears to have just as much drama going on outside the ring as in it. Gyllenhaal has undergone another dramatic body transformation to play a down-on-his-luck fighter, bulking up considerably from his creepy turn in Nightcrawler. While the trailer is keen to play up the emotional weight of the father / daughter relationship in the movie, it's also a little too spoilery for my taste and there are some genuine twists to the story exposed in it, so be warned before you check it out. Southpaw is directed by Antoine Fuqua, and marks a significant departure from his usual action-pieces. On first glance Gyllenhaal, who was criminally overlooked at the Oscars last month, may have done enough in Southpaw to warrant consideration come awards season next year. »

Watch: Jake Gyllenhaal Is Ferocious and Ripped In the First 'Southpaw' Trailer

27 March 2015 1:30 PM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

If there's one actor in Hollywood who's on a heckuva hot streak right now, it's Jake Gyllenhaal. He is in what you'd call "a zone" in terms of his role choices and performances, dialing it up a notch for each one -- from End of Watch to Prisoners to Enemy to the fantastic, shoulda-been-Oscar-nominated Nightcrawler, the dude is killin' it right now.  And here comes Southpaw, in theaters July 11. The first trailer for the Antoine Fuqua-directed film feels a bit like a Rocky movie at first, with Gyllenhaal playing a banged-up boxer with a chip on his shoulder whose family wants him to slow it down before things are taken too far.  And then...yeah, things are taken a bit too far, leading to a family member's death, an estranged...

Here’s your first look at the brand new trailer for Southpaw.

The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, Rachel McAdams, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Rita Ora, Naomie Harris and Victor Ortiz.

From acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and starring Academy Award nominated Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Brokeback Mountain) comes a story of tragedy, loss and the painful road to redemption… Billy “The Great” Hope (Gyllenhaal) is the reigning Junior Middleweight Champion whose unorthodox stance, the so-called “Southpaw,” consists of an ineloquent, though brutal, display of offensive fighting…one fueled by his own feelings of inadequacy and a desperate need for love, money and fame.

With a beautiful family, home and financial security, Billy is on top both in and out of the ring until a tragic accident leaves his wife dead and sends him into a downward spiral. His days now an endless haze of alcohol and prescription drugs, »

Jake Gyllenhaal gets cut to save his daughter in new trailer for 'Southpaw'

27 March 2015 11:50 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

In case you hadn't heard, "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter teamed up with "Training Day" and "The Equalizer" director Antoine Fuqua for the new boxing drama "Southpaw."  Harvey Weinstein has been touting it since he showed footage of Gyllenhaal "training" at Cannes last May.  Judging from the first preview, it may be box office heaven for The Weinstein Company. We'd warn you about spoilers, but this is one trailer that pretty much puts it all out there.  Jake Gyllenhaal plays Billy Hope, a champion junior middleweight boxer who seemingly has it all.  A beautiful and loving wife (Rachel McAdams), an adorable daughter (Oona Laurence) and an opulent lifestyle.  When tragedy strikes Hope hits rock bottom until he decides to pick up the pieces of his life by hanging out at a small-time gym run by Forest Whitaker.   You can predict the entire movie's plot based on this new preview, »

Southpaw: first trailer

27 March 2015 10:44 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

A beefed-up Jake Gyllenhaal stars in Antoine Fuqua's boxing drama, Southpaw. Here's the first trailer...

Unfortunate timing, really: the first trailer for the boxing drama Southpaw has landed just as Ryan Reynolds brings half of the web to a standstill by posing by a roaring fire as Deadpool.

Nevertheless, Jake Gyllenhaal makes a striking transformation of his own in Antoine Fuqua's forthcoming film; as Billy Hope, he's trained hard to become a convincing-looking professional fighter.

Alongside Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker and Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson are among the supporting cast. The trailer below looks as though it gives away a fair bit of the story, so bear that in mind before going in.

Southpaw's out on the 31st July in the UK.
