'Captain Marvel' Lines Up 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Writer

Marvel is in negotiations with Guardians of the Galaxy writer Nicole Perlman and Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve to write their Phase Three adventure Captain Marvel. The studio still does not have an actress lined up to play the title character, or a director lined up, but the comic book adaptation already has a November 2, 2018 release date in place. Ironically, producer Kevin Feige revealed during the press day for Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron that they are "very close" to finding the writers for Captain Marvel, while debunking rumors that the character would pop up in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, first debuted in 1968's "Marvel Super-Heroes" #13. She was a U.S. Air Force security chief who is transformed into Captain Marvel following an explosion that involved Kree technology. The character is given superhuman strength and the ability to fly after her DNA was infused with a Kree alien. »

'Wonder Woman' Movie Loses Director Michelle MacLaren

After first entering talks to direct Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman back in November, filmmaker Michelle MacLaren has backed out of the project. Creative differences were cited as to why the director has left the superhero adventure, which is currently slated for release on June 23, 2017. Here's what a Warner Bros. representative had to say about the departure in a brief statement.

"Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together."

The project would have marked Michelle MacLaren's feature directorial debut, after gaining critical acclaim from directing episodes of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul. Warner Bros. had specifically sought out a female director to take on the project, but it isn't known if the studio has lined up a replacement at this time. It's also unclear if the departure »

With Captain America: Civil War getting ready to start production in Atlanta later this month, Variety reports that the movie will be the first to use IMAX's new 2D digital cameras. Director Joe Russo confirmed that approximately 15 minutes of the movie will be shot with these IMAX cameras, including one sequence in particular that has, "some incredible scale to it." Here's what the filmmaker had to say below.

"We like being on the cutting edge of technology, and we like to enhance storytelling with technology in a way that pushes the narrative forward creatively. When you're working on a Marvel film, there's a sense of showmanship that goes along with the movies, and no exhibitor exploits that better than IMAX."

Joe Russo and his brother Anthony Russo both plan to shoot Captain America: Civil War in 2D, and convert it to 3D in the post-production process. IMAX has been rather »

'Hulk' Movie Stalled Because Universal Owns the Rights

Mark Ruffalo and the rest of his Avengers: Age of Ultron cast mates completed the West Coast portion of their press tour this weekend. And on Saturday, the Hulk star revealed Marvel is still very much interested in doing a Planet Hulk movie. At some point, we'll get to see the green goliath travel into space. But in a new interview with Collider, it sounds as though we're more likely to see that plot happen as part of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as opposed to the Hulk's own standalone movie. Apparently, the reason we haven't heard about a new Hulk solo adventure yet is because Universal Pictures still owns those rights. The actor explains:

"As far as a Hulk movie, a standalone Hulk movie, Marvel doesn't really have the rights to that yet. That's still Universal's property, so there's that issue. That's a big impediment to moving forward with that. »

Today, director David Ayer sent out a new photo commemorating the first day of principal photography on the Toronto set, showcasing the first slate used in the production. You may notice that the slate uses the working title "Bravo 14," so if you find yourself in Toronto and see signs for "Bravo 14," it's actually for Suicide Squad.

During principal photography of David Ayer's last movie, the World War II drama Fury, the director sent out a different photo from the set on every day of shooting, so hopefully we can expect the filmmaker to do the same with Suicide Squad.
