Daniel Craig Showtime Series ‘Purity’ Won’t Interfere With James Bond Return

1 hour ago | Deadline | See recent Deadline news »

Daniel Craig had spoken about his desire to move on from the James Bond character after the most recent 007 movie Spectre. When he recently signed on to star in a 20-episode TV series, Purity for Showtime, that seemed like further indication that he had hung up the tuxedo for good. But doing the limited series doesn’t necessarily mean that he would not be available to do another Bond movie, should he opt to do that. "It depends when they do the next James Bond movie, but… »

Could ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ Land Hugh Grant His First Oscar Nomination?

7 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

This week, Paramount bows “Florence Foster Jenkins,” the true story of a very nice woman who happened to be a very bad singer. Many will talk about the fact that it’s likely to land star Meryl Streep her 20th Oscar nomination, which is staggering. But perhaps even more surprising is that her co-star in the film, Hugh Grant, has never even been nominated.

Maybe it’s not that shocking, considering Grant doesn’t usually make movies that compete in the Oscar race; with the exception of “Sense and Sensibility” in 1995, his work tends to be more populist than “prestige.” But “Florence Foster Jenkins,” directed by Stephen Frears, is the perfect combination of both. It’s a big crowd-pleaser, a period piece, and a true story. It also helps that the central characters are artists – something the Academy loves. The film itself is the first entry of the year that »

Newswire: Jennifer Lynch to direct horror flick about a killer Halloween theme park

3 hours ago | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Filmmaker Jennifer Chambers Lynch (Boxing Helena, Chained) appears to have spun a couple of work-for-hire TV episode jobs into a feature horror movie gig. The director, whose father is Twin Peaks creator David Lynch, has helmed just two episodes of AMC’s The Walking Dead, but those two episodes are undoubtedly among the most affecting and fear-inducing installments of the all-too-often disappointing series. Her work on the fifth season’s “Spend” and the sixth season’s “Jss” so impressed Twd producer Gale Anne Hurd that she decided to tap her for a Halloween-themed film she had in the works, according to Deadline.

“When I saw the level of passion and professionalism Jen brought to The Walking Dead when she directed for us, I knew I had found the right director to helm Hellfest,” Hurd explained. “Her vision for the film is not only compelling and character driven, but very, very »

‘Twin Peaks’ Revival: David Lynch Is ‘Deep in Editing’ for Early Half of 2017 Release

46 minutes ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Twin Peaks,” even in revival form, continues to be one of the most enigmatic series on TV, whenever it makes it to air.

At the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday, reporters expected to get some news, be it new footage, a release date, hell, even some damn good coffee or pie. Unfortunately, Showtime execs could only give crumbs about the state of production. “You can do a show like ‘Twin Peaks,’ where we don’t even know for sure how many episodes there will be,” Showtime President and CEO David Nevins half-joked, half-announced, as critics sobbed inside. A touted clip reel shown at TCA did not include any actual footage, only actors on set raving about how wonderful the show is.

Tegan and Sara Team Up With ‘BoJack Horseman’ Illustrator For Mystical ‘Hang on to the Night’ Video

56 minutes ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Musical duo Tegan and Sara released the music video for their track “Hang on to the Night,” which might catch the eye of “Bojack Horseman” fans. The two rock some major similarities – especially since the star of the clip is an animated horse – and that’s because the clip was directed and illustrated by Lisa Hanawalt, production designer and producer for the Netflix comedy.

The singing-songwriting sisters reached out to Hanawalt and entrusted her with the creative direction for the video. “When [Lisa] sent me her drawings, I already felt very realized, as if she saw me,” Sara told Nylon. The song was a response to a number of sudden deaths in the sibling’s family and their anxiety about morality. The video explores, both literally and figuratively, the “regenerative” aspect of the night. “If you can manage to hang on, you can face another day,” Sara added.

‘Hell Or High Water’ Is A Coens-Esque Caper With Personality & Zest [Review]

Through the eyes of Englishman David Mackenzie, Texas is turned into a smoldering, dust-covered, Coens-esque environment, full of no-shit-taking colorful characters. The director’s follow-up to the gritty and ultra-raw jail flick “Starred Up” is much lighter on its feet, leaning on “Sicario” screenwriter Taylor Sheridan and his brimful of whip-smart hijinks that pepper the picture […]

‘Rocko’s Modern Life’ Revived at Nickelodeon as TV Movie

1 hour ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Everyone’s favorite wallaby, talking cow and neurotic turtle are returning to TV.

Nickelodeon announced Thursday afternoon it has ordered a TV movie of “Rocko’s Modern Life,” the cartoon comedy which originally aired on the channel in the mid-’90s.

Rocko, Heffer and Filburt will all return to O-Town, though voice casting has yet to be confirmed for the revival.

“What I have found by bringing these characters back is that it’s not so much about nostalgia, but a sense that they still feel relevant and fresh to me, and after 20 years, they can’t wait to comment on modern life in the 21st century,” creator Joe Murray said in a statement. “They still have a lot to say.”

Nickelodeon already has two other major revivals in the works. “Legends of the Hidden Temple” will return this fall and a “Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie” is planned »

‘Author: The Jt LeRoy Story’ Exclusive Clip: A Literary Wunderkind Goes From It Boy To Imposter

1 hour ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Many authors use a pseudonym to mask their real identity or to place distance between the text and themselves, but no one creates an entirely new identity with different experiences and actually send them out into the world. Well, that’s exactly what Laura Albert did. The 40-year-old San Francisco former phone-sex operator turned housewife created a literary persona named Jt Leroy, who took the world by storm with his “exploits” about his sordid childhood mired by prostitution, drug addiction, and vagrancy. The new documentary “Author: The Jt LeRoy Story” chronicles Albert’s creation from the height of LeRoy’s fame at fashion events and rock shows to the New York Times pulling the rug out from under the story. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.
