Anne Hathaway, Keanu Reeves and Daniel Radcliffe are all in the same film: The Modern Ocean lines up the stars

Shipping drama The Modern Ocean might have formed the most impressive cast of the year, with Anne Hathaway, Keanu Reeves and Daniel Radcliffe all signed up.
Chloe Grace Moretz, Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Abraham Attah and Jeff Goldblum are also starring alongside Shane Carruth, who is directing.
The Modern Ocean is about the competition for valuable shipping routes and the search for priceless material, as bitter rivalries take vengeance on one another in the battle of the ocean floor.
Carruth's previous films are 2013 Sundance Special Jury Prize winner Upstream Colour and 2004's Primer, which picked up the 2004 Sundance Grand Jury Prize.
There's no word yet on when The Modern Ocean will go into production or release in cinemas.
Hathaway, meanwhile, recently spoke out to say she hasn't been approached to star in the Mary Poppins sequel, but joked: "Although I do have an 'in', as I am Julie Andrews's granddaughter. »
Lost Disney film Sleigh Bells is discovered - and it stars Mickey Mouse precursor Oswald the Lucky Rabbit

In what might be the coolest discovery of the year, a lost Disney short featuring a precursor to Mickey Mouse has been found by the BFI National Archive.
1928's six-minute Christmas-themed cartoon Sleigh Bells was thought to be missing, before a researcher located it in the BFI's archive.
Lost 1927 Walt Disney cartoon Empty Socks discovered in Norway
Sleigh Bells features the long-eared Mickey look-a-like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit on a skating escapade with his ladylove Ortensia the cat.
The BFI will be screening a restored version of Sleigh Bells on December 12 as part of its 'It's A Disney Christmas: Seasonal Shorts' presentation.
Walt Disney Animation Studios president Andrew Millstein hailed the rediscovery, saying: "We're thrilled to be collaborating with the BFI National Archives in the restoration of the 'lost' Oswald short, Sleigh Bells, and to be sharing this delightful animated discovery with audiences in the UK as part of this special Disney holiday programme. »
New York Police Department union responds to Quentin Tarantino's "latest outburst": 'The damage is done'

The New York Police Department union is none too pleased with what it calls Quentin Tarantino's "latest outburst".
The filmmaker has been in hot water for referring to the shootings of unarmed suspects by police as "murders", although today he attempted to clarify those remarks without backing down.
"Frankly, it feels lousy to have a bunch of police mouthpieces call me a cop hater. I'm not a cop hater," Tarantino insisted. "That is a misrepresentation. That is slanderous."
Police unions in Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles all called for a boycott of the filmmaker's work last month, and today NYPD union the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association continued those efforts.
Patrolmen's Benevolent Association president told The Hollywood Reporter: "The damage from Quentin Tarantino's hateful comments about police officers has already been done. 'Freedom of expression' goes both ways.

Quentin Tarantino has launched an impassioned explanation of his recent criticism of racially-motivated shootings.
He has been in the hot seat over the last few weeks for his controversial comments at an anti-police brutality march in New York City - four days after NYPD officer Randolph Holder was killed in the line of duty.
While addressing protestors, the director called police officers who shoot unarmed suspects "murderers".
Police unions in Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles called for a boycott of the filmmaker's work in the wake of his comments.
The National Association of Police Organizations - which represents 1,000 police units and nearly 250,000 law enforcement officers - subsequently asked its members to turn down any offers to work on Tarantino's movies.
Breaking his silence today (November 3), Tarantino told The Los Angeles Times: "All cops are not murderers. I never said that. I never even implied that. What they're doing is pretty obvious. »

The logo for Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has emerged.
A brand new promotional image for the fantasy epic was unveiled on Twitter today (November 3), signalling a new phase of hype for the 2016 movie.

Fantastic Beasts takes place 70 years before the events of Harry Potter, with Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander.
Scamander's travels around New York with pal Jacob (Dan Fogler) see him cross paths with the wizard Graves (Colin Farrell) and other supernatural forces.
The project has been largely shrouded in mystery, so little is known about Katherine Waterston, Ron Perlman, Ezra Miller and Samantha Morton's characters.
Jk Rowling has penned the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts, which reunites her with Harry Potter franchise director David Yates.

As far as fan trailers go, this Star Wars one is pretty impressive.
Clearly slightly disappointed with the prequels to the franchise, one fan has gone out of his way and created his own, using new footage from the upcoming instalment of the saga.
And the result is a brilliant trailer for Episodes I, II and III that looks quite an improvement on what was actually delivered by George Lucas.
The content focuses on the parallels between Obi-Wan and Anakin's stories, and includes some epic battle scenes and all the major characters that you would expect to see.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits cinemas on December 17 and 18 in the Us, and has broken pre-sale records, taking $6.5 million in just one day.

Katniss says she'll kill President Snow in a new clip from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

Katniss Everdeen's deadly plans are made in the newest clip for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.
She reveals to Johanna Mason (Jena Malone) that she intends to kill the tyrannical President Snow and take down the Capitol once and for all.
Mockingjay - Part 2 will bring back franchise stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks for one final battle against Donald Sutherland's evil President Snow.
It's also the last screen role for Philip Seymour Hoffman, who passed away in February 2014 during the making of the film.
Lawrence recently spoke out about finally completing the franchise and saying goodbye to Katniss forever.
"I think it will be pretty bizarre when the movie is finally out and... everything is officially done," she said at a press event. "This movie has been my life for so many years."

This picture book based on Alien will melt your heart, rather than your face

The Alien films have been freaking people out for decades, but now artist Joey Spiotto is trying to undo all that creepy work with his new picture book.
Alien Next Door reimagines the iconic xenomorph as a good-natured chap who just wants to be your friend.
The book reveals previously unknown facts about the creature, from its love of basketball, cats and camping to its dedication to oral hygiene.
Spiotto told io9 that he doesn't know whether the book has been seen by Ridley Scott or James Cameron.
"I hope that they enjoy how I totally made their horrifyingly scary creature cute and loveable," he said.
In news back in the world where the xenomorphs are still flesh-eating, egg-laying monstrosities, director Neill Blomkamp recently revealed that his Alien 5 movie has been put on hold while Scott works on his Prometheus follow-up, now confusingly titled Alien: Paradise Lost.

Warcraft: The Beginning trailer teased ahead of premiere on Friday

Are video game movies about to get good with Warcraft and Assassin's Creed?
The first trailer for Warcraft: The Beginning will premiere on Friday, but before all that there's a lightning-fast 15-second teaser to whet your appetite.
Featuring orcs, sword fights and snarling beasts yanking men off horses, this sets up an action-packed fantasy film that looks a heck of a lot like Lord of the Rings (let's go with that, not The Hobbit).
The Duncan Jones-directed movie is inspired by the Warcraft video game series and will take place in the world of Azeroth.
Expect the storyline to dive into the first encounters between humans and orcs across a myriad of digitally-rendered backdrops recognisable from the game series.
Travis Fimmel, Robert Kazinsky, Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell and Dominic Cooper are among the cast for the film, which will premiere on June 3, 2016 in the UK and June 10 in the Us. »
Oscar-winning Chariots of Fire writer and Kes star Colin Welland dies, aged 81

Colin Welland passed away yesterday (November 2), aged 81.
The Oscar-winning Chariots of Fire writer died after suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
Welland won the Oscar in 1982 for Best Original Screenplay, and gave his famous "the British are coming" acceptance speech.
He was also an accomplished actor and won a BAFTA for playing Mr Farthing in Ken Loach's Kes in 1969.
His family said in a statement: "Colin will be desperately missed by his family and friends.
"Alzheimer's is a cruel illness and there have been difficult times but in the end Colin died peacefully in his sleep.
"We are proud of Colin's many achievements during his life but most of all he will be missed as a loving and generous friend, husband, father and granddad." »
Absolutely Fabulous's Helen Lederer: 'I have every confidence the movie will be great'

An Absolutely Fabulous movie is finally happening, and Helen Lederer has "every confidence" that it will be a hit.
Lederer will reprise her role as Catriona, Patsy's dim-witted magazine colleague, and will start filming her scenes this month.
"It's lovely to be invited to be in it after so long," she told Digital Spy. "I'm looking forward to seeing all the people again. It will be nice. It will be like a school reunion but where you drop in and have a laugh and go home again happy."
When asked why Absolutely Fabulous remains a hit with many people, Lederer said that she believes the show provides a little bit for everyone.

Star Wars actors back campaign for terminally ill fan to see The Force Awakens early

Two Star Wars actors have backed the campaign for a terminally ill fan to see The Force Awakens early.
Mark Hamill and John Boyega supported the appeal to show the movie to 32-year-old superfan Daniel Fleetwood before it is released in the Us on December 18.

Both Hamill and Boyega retweeted the hashtag "Forcefordaniel" after an appeal on Fleetwood's local news show in Houston, Texas.

He told Kprc-tv: "Judging by how progressive the disease has gotten in the past two months I really don't think that I'll be able to make it.

Bryan Singer has promised that an X-Men: Apocalypse teaser trailer will hit screens soon.
The promo has been long-awaited by fans for a while now, but the director confirmed yesterday (November 2) on Instagram that he was still working on it.

It's official: Hunger Games theme parks will open in the Us and China

The dog-eat-dog post-apocalyptic world of The Hunger Games might not sound like a good premise for a theme park, but that's not stopping Lionsgate, the studio behind the box office-busting films.
With locations earmarked in both the Us (Atlanta) and China (Macau), the parks are set to open for business at some point in 2018 or 2019, reports The New York Times.
These projects are in addition to the London-set stage show and the long-planned "entertainment complex" in the UAE.
What's key here is that Lionsgate is licensing its properties to different theme park developers, rather than opening its own - much like how Warner Bros allows Universal Studios use of its Harry Potter properties.
Other Lionsgate properties pencilled in for theme park adaptations include The Step Up series, Now You See Me and Twilight.

Speaking to Details magazine, Evan Peters casually let slip just what Quicksilver is up to this time around.
"My character is searching for his father and wants to find him," said Peters, referring to Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Quicksilver's dad.
"It starts there and then he jumps on the X-Men train and gets sucked up in this whole Apocalypse madness. He tries to stop him from destroying the world."

Nicole Kidman poised to join Gal Gadot in the Wonder Woman movie

Nicole Kidman is the latest A-list star to join the DC Extended Universe.
The Oscar-winning actress is in talks to join Gal Gadot and Chris Pine in the cast of Wonder Woman, according to The Wrap.
There's scant details about her role at the moment, only that she's playing "a high-ranking Amazonian warrior".
Early speculation is already suggesting Kidman could be playing Hyppolyta, Diana Prince's biological mother and the Queen of the Amazons in Wonder Woman comic lore.
This isn't the first DC Comics-related role for Kidman - the actress starred as Chase Meridian opposite Val Kilmer in 1995's Batman Forever.
Gadot will make her debut as Wonder Woman in next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with a Patty Jenkins-directed solo movie following in 2017.

Boardwalk Empire star Michael Stuhlbarg could be joining Doctor Strange as a villain

Doctor Strange is one step closer to completing its cast, with Marvel now turning to a Boardwalk Empire star.
Michael Stuhlbarg, who played Arnold Rothstein in the HBO drama, is in talks to take on the role of Nicodemus West, according to Variety.
The character is a rival scientist of Stephen Vincent Strange.
Benedict Cumberbatch is of course playing the title role - Earth's protector against magical and mystical threats.
Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor have also been cast in the 2016 superhero movie.
Scott Derrickson's introduction to the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe is currently slated to open on October 28, 2016 in the UK and November 4, 2016 in the Us.
