Please help with firmware update gone bad!

A friend and I are travelling for photography tomorrow.  He updated to the latest firmware on his XT-1 and 90mm.  Unfortunately, he did the lens first.  After doing the camera, the 90mm lens is no longer recognized.  He cannot re-flash the 90mm firmware.  Any solution other than sending the lens to Fuji?

The Fuji website does not indicate that you have to update the camera BEFORE the lenses.  Thanks goodness I did.  Thanks for any suggestions to help my buddy who is very unhappy.
