Jennifer Hudson and Harvey Fierstein have signed on to NBC’s "Hairspray Live!,” the network’s next live Broadway musical.

Hudson will play Motormouth Maybelle, while Fierstein will play Edna Turnblad, the role he won a Tony for in the stage version. He will also write the teleplay.

“We are beyond thrilled with this incredibly talented duo of stars for 'Hairspray Live!,’” said NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt. “Harvey Fierstein created the role of Edna Turnblad on Broadway in an indelible Tony-winning performance that demanded to be memorialized on film, and we’re happy he wanted to step into her shoes one last, unforgettable time. We’re also so grateful that the incomparable Jennifer Hudson will play Motormouth Maybelle and we know her rendition of ‘I Know Where I’ve Been’ will literally stop the show.”

Based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, “Hairspray Live!” takes place in 1962 Baltimore. Teenager »

‘Game of Thrones’ Premiere: 4 Fan Theories for How Jon Snow Will Return

19 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

(Spoiler Alert: Do not keep reading if you have not seen the Season 6 premiere of “Game of Thrones”) “Game of Thrones” fans still refuse to accept that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) actually died in the Season 5 finale, even though he remained dead in the Season 6 premiere on Sunday. But in author George R.R. Martin‘s “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy universe, in which the dead can rise from the grave — and have many times — there is no guarantee Snow is dead for good. Book readers knew of Snow’s demise all the way back in 2011 with the release of “Dance. »

Tina Fey, Megan Hilty Fete NBC’s Bob Greenblatt at Actors Fund Gala

5 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Tina Fey took time out from the opening of her husband’s latest Broadway effort on Monday night to shower praise on NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt as he received the Actors Fund’s Medal of Honor.

Fey noted that during her 19 years of working at NBC she’s seen nine heads of NBC come and go. Greenblatt, who has run the entertainment side of the network since 2011, stands out as uniquely qualified for the job, drawing an analogy to characters from her NBC comedy “30 Rock.”

“He comes from a creative background, not a corporate one,” Fey told the crowd at the Marriott Marquis. “Bob Greenblatt is much more Kenneth the Page than Jack Donaghy.”

Fey hustled across the street in Times Square to present Greenblatt’s kudo shortly after the opening of Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s one-man effort “Fully Committed,” which features original music by her husband, Jeff Richmond. »

Blindspot Review: “In the Comet of Us”

7 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

For the most part, Blindspot hasn’t particularly focused itself on what we might refer to as “timely” subjects, but that looks to change in a big way with tonight’s episode. Let’s jump in and take a look at this week’s new entry, “In the Comet of Us.” The episode opens with Mayfair reacting to the unexpected encounter that she had at the end of last week’s episode, and it’s clear that she isn’t at all happy with this development in her life. She soon has other things to focus on, though, after Patterson and Zapata unlock another of Jane’s tattoos. The

Dancing With the Stars Week 6 Recap: Did the Right Couple Go Home?

Never underestimate the power of Dancing With the Stars.

In the course of just one episode, the ABC reality competition has taken nine iconic dances from pop culture and ensured that we will never be able to look at them the same way again — some for the better, and others for much, much worse.

On one hand, future listenings of ‘N Sync’s “Bye Bye Bye” will bring me right back to Wanyá Morris and Lindsay Arnold’s ultra-badass jazz routine set to the 2000 pop jam. And on the other, anytime I spot a rerun of Slumdog Millionaire on basic cable, »
