A few years may have lapsed since we last caught wind of Denzel Washington’s adaptation of Fences, August Wilson’s acclaimed Broadway play of the same name, though Deadline is reporting that the project is beginning to pick up steam.

Heralding a stage reunion, it’s been confirmed that Mykelti Williamson and Russell Hornsby will reprise their roles in the race drama, flanked by a cast that includes Gabriel Maxson, Jovan Adepo, Saniyya Sidney, and Viola Davis. Having shepherded the project since 2013, Washington is also set to star in Fences as 53-year-old Troy Maxon, a “sanitation employee who once aspired to be a professional baseball player and now faces daily discrimination while coming to terms with his lost ambitions.”

Earning both the coveted Pulitzer and Tony prizes when it first debuted in the early 80s, Fences acts as the sixth instalment of Wilson’s ten-part “Pittsburgh Cycle,” charting race »

Whose Side Is 'Doctor Strange' on in 'Captain America: Civil War'?

9 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier today, we reported that production has wrapped on Marvel's Doctor Strange in New York City. And now we begin the long wait to see the first trailer. Doctor Strange will be the second movie in Marvel Phase Three, following Captain America: Civil War, which pits all of Marvel's heroes against each other. Doctor Strange hasn't been properly introduced into the McU yet, and he isn't expected to be introduced in Captain America: Civil War either. But that didn't stop directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo from sharing a Gif image on their Facebook page, revealing which side the Sorcerer Supreme is on.

The Gif image is taken from a scene we've already seen in the Captain America: Civil War trailer, where Team Cap and Team Iron Man battle each other on an airport runway. The filmmakers decided to use their editing skills to insert the Sorcerer Supreme alongside Team »

HBO Launching 'Game Of Thrones' Talk Show 'After The Thrones'

15 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Over at AMC, the network has been busy maximizing the brand value of "The Walking Dead" as much as possible, launching the spinoff series "Fear The Walking Dead," and live talk show, "Talking Dead." And now, HBO is taking a page from their rival's playbook. The network has announced today the launch of the talk show, "After The Thrones." Hosted by "Watch The Thrones" podcast team Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan, episodes will be available on Mondays on HBO Now, HBO Go and HBO On Demand, as well as on HBO proper. And given that the network won't be sending anything to press, everyone will be in the same boat as Greenwalk and Ryan break down the latest events, and try to predict what will be coming next. It's a smart move by HBO (frankly, I'm a bit surprised it look them this long), and only serves to grow the »

Warner Bros. set to vaguely irritate the easily irritated with 'Speedy Gonzales' film

37 minutes ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

I’d love to know the backstory behind the news today that Warner Bros. Animation Group is going to be making a Speedy Gonzales film. Warner Bros. has been much better about embracing their animation legacy than Disney has because they’ve never hidden from their own past. One of the smartest things Warner has done when releasing collections of their older animation is including cartoons that have uncomfortable racial or sexual material, pointing out that they are the product of their time rather than pretending they never happened. It bothers me that Disney is willing to continually exploit the characters from Song Of The South at the Splash Mountain attraction and in merchandising, but they keep the film locked up in a way that only makes it seem more dangerous or offensive. Instead of putting together a release that would honor the work of James Baskett and the innovations »

Review: 'Better Call Saul' episode opens with a shot to impress even 'Breaking Bad' fans

A review of tonight's Better Call Saul coming up just as soon as you point me to your best copier... "I need to find a way to do this that's right for me." -Kim During last night's Walking Dead finale, AMC ran ads for a lot of its current and upcoming shows, including a pair of Better Call Saul ads. One featured critical praise for Bob Odenkirk in particular. The other was heavy on Mike, the Salamancas, and overall Breaking Bad flavor. I can imagine the latter being more appealing to fans of a zombie action show, but Saul remains two shows in one at the moment, and the Jimmy/Kim/Chuck one was predominantly on display in "Fifi," even if the episode opened with an eye-popping sequence that goes up there with some of the more impressive shots the parent show ever gave us, and one that was very »

‘Batman v Superman’ Box Office Falls Harder Than Any Comic-Book Movie Since ‘Jonah Hex’

Why 'Batman v Superman' suffered such a massive box office drop in its second weekend

7 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Note: You can watch Roth Cornet and I discuss this topic in the video embedded above and below. After grossing a record-breaking $166 million in its opening frame, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice declined precipitously in its second weekend, dropping a huge 68.4% to $52 million -- a plummet that has left many industry observers to wonder whether the film will even manage to crack the $1 billion mark globally. Indeed, Box Office Guru founder Gitesh Pandya is among those predicting a sub-billion-dollar total. "I project a domestic final of about $345M and a worldwide final of around $900M," Pandya told me via email.  So what contributed to Dawn of Justice's massive decline, which puts it on a par with the widely-reviled X-Men spinoff X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Some have speculated that the film benefitted from an Easter-holiday boost in its first frame, thereby inflating the gap between its first and second weekends »

Film Review: ‘Collective:Unconscious’

7 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Five independent filmmakers interpret each other’s dreams in “Collective:Unconscious,” an omnibus feature whose intriguing premise bears fruit in a diverting, diverse array of idiosyncratic miniatures. Shot in different formats and aspect ratios, the result offers enough tonal and aesthetic flavors that sheer variety elevates those sections that might seem too twee or obvious if viewed in a different context. Commercial prospects are iffy, but this serving of surreal cinematic appetizers is perfect fest fare, and will burnish the directors’ developing resumes.

After an introduction of framework sequences (dubbed “All Hypnosis Is Self-Hypnosis” in the end credits, and co-directed by Daniel Patrick Carbone and Lauren Wolkstein) in which hypnotist Daniel Ryan puts filmmaker subjects in a trance, the first segment is “Hide Your Smiling Faces” helmer Carbone’s “Black Soil, Green Grass,” drawn from Wolkstein’s dream. Shot in pristine black-and-white, it features Frank Mosley as a man recording the »
