No, it suited the local market. Viewfinders are mostly a Western thing and wanted by those who used film SLRs and can't change their habits.

If Oly produce another ILC with no VF then they will again have a lot of stock to sell off cheap later.
Unless they throw in the VF. That works.

As I said, Japanese women like them. On holidays there (that was Nov 2104) I was surprised at how many Pens I saw, of course with women. Saw only a couple of OM-D and they were with foreign tourists. In the tiny minority were Japanese men with a serious backpack of gear (Nikon/Canon?) and a tripod dangling.

Different markets need different cameras.

The very same reason why the Samsung NX500 didn't sell outside the home market. And leaving off the EVF turned out to be a disastrous mistake.
