For a 16-85 I'd call it a wash with buying a bridge camera. Since she already has the camera, a lens makes more sense.

Technically it's been done several times when you consider an electronic shutter. Fuji did it first with their X-T1 a couple of years ago adding the option.

But baby seals are delicious!

Right after the firmware that reduces the weight and bulk.

If you read the OP carefully you'll see she already has the D3300.

With a D3300 in mind I would either recommend a 16-85 which, while a bit slow and old, would work really well for a lot of things. Or the much improved 16-80 that costs more. There are wider ...

Having used the Sidekick with the 200-400 VR (not 200-500) it's not any trouble at all. Yes, it's a bit precarious to make sure that the rail is secured but honestly it was never any issue and the ...

The OP also can use the 35mm FX 1.8 lens. For the OP, between the two (28 and 35) I'd pick the 28 for 2 reasons: a bit wider which is helpful for street shots and you'll probably end up wanting a ...

I bought my Tamron 150-600 about 3 months before the 200-500 was announced. I had the usual tinges of regret and thoughts of changing. But then I took a hard and honest look at what I find ...

I got mine back too. I didn't see any settings change. So far so good. I'm curious about the adjust shutter speed line item. But whatever!

Lol, no Freudian slip there eh? Couldn't resist! 😄

I listed a couple but I've researched a lot from the old Rokkor files website and other sources when I did more film a couple of years ago. I only have a handful of MD lenses now.

More like borderline incoherent and irrelevant to your argument, CopCarSS.

There's a small part of me that really wants to try this lens. The problem is there is a much bigger part of me that doesn't want to spend that kind of money for a niche item. I wonder what the...

It was one possible option in any case. An idea I was toying with for fun. I already have an MD-FX adapter from when I used to use some Fuji stuff but was looking to see if there was anything that ...

I'm thinking of digital with a mount that could take the minolta lenses without an adapter. But as it turns out there isn't such a beast. Adapters are OK but they do introduce additional tolerance ...

Great info! I will bookmark it for when I do decide to buy something. Since it's purely for pleasure I'm not wanting to spend a lot of money. Maybe if Sony puts out a A7III the price of the ...

Thanks for the reply. I've got several good MD lenses and can easily get a few more. I've been feeling nostalgic lately and thought about an A7 just to use with the glass but was looking for a ...

I didn't think so, and I didn't see any while searching, but it never hurts to ask. I might have missed something.

Digital is what I meant since I already have 2 film Minoltas.
