CBS's 2015-16 Schedule: 'Supergirl' to Monday, 'Limitless' Tuesday, 'Person of Interest' to midseason

1 hour ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

CBS announced its 2015-16 schedule on Wednesday (May 13) morning, a schedule accompanied by much talk about the network's stability and CBS' latest overall ratings triumph. For all of the network's success, CBS' schedule answered a slew of important questions, including: Where would "Supergirl" go? What will get the benefit of the "Big Bang Theory" lead-in? What's actually happening with the end of "CSI"? And which established successes will be on the bench for midseason? Your answers in brief? Monday, "Life in Pieces," two-hour finale and lots of stuff. Let's get more details. "This is a schedule well-positioned to build on the foundation of last year when we introduced five successful new series and increased our audience by 5 percent," blurbs Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment. "With ‘Thursday Night Football,’ many of the biggest hits on primetime television and huge events throughout the year, all of our exciting new shows have the best possible environment to succeed, »

‘Supergirl’ Lands Monday 8pm Slot on CBS’ 2015-16 Schedule

1 hour ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Supergirl” has landed the 8 p.m. Monday slot on CBS’ 2015-16 schedule. The hotly anticipated new drama from Greg Berlanti will bow on the night in early November, after CBS’ “Thursday Night Football” ends, and when “The Big Bang Theory” relocates to Thursday.

Its competition will include another superhero drama, Fox’s “Gotham,” as well as long-running reality contests “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC and “The Voice” on NBC.

Supergirl” marks the first drama to fill the Monday leadoff hour since 1949, which has been filled with comedy, on CBS, but for the run of “Scarecrow and Mrs. King” in the mid ’80s. Last season marked the first time in decades that Monday’s 9 p.m. hour wasn’t occupied by comedies.

“We see this as a much broader show then just a genre show or just a comic book show,” said Svp of CBS Primetime Kelly Kahl of “Supergirl, »

1 hour ago | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Kara Zor-El will take flight on Mondays this fall.

CBS on Wednesday revealed its primetime schedule for the 2015-16 TV season, and the big news is that Supergirl will assume Monday’s formerly comedy-dominant opening hour after Thursday Night Football ends in early November.

Also of note: New family comedy Life in Pieces has scored the plum post-Big Bang slot (first on Mondays and then on Thursdays after Tnf concludes), and new drama Limitless takes over Person of Interest‘s Tuesday-at-10 perch (the latter is being held for midseason),

In advance of their full Fall schedule debut CBS just renewed a whole slew of programing, picking up nine dramas, one comedy, and three reality series for their 2015-16 lineup. The network also axed three series, Stalker, The McCarthys and Battle Creek, which was unofficially cancelled last week. The Odd Couple emerges as CBS's sole comedy renewal. CBS didn’t need The Machine’s help  in making this decision. The network has renewed Person Of Interest for a fifth season. Joining Person Of Interest in CBS’ renewal announcements are fellow long-running CBS series, such as Hawaii Five-0 and The Good Wife, along with two of the network’s freshman series, CSI: Cyber and The Odd Couple. CBS Renews The Good Wife, 14 Others; CSI Put On Hiatus

11 May 2015 11:51 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As I reported earlier today, CBS has axed Battle Creek, Stalker and The McCarthys, but it’s time for almost every other showrunner working on the network to pop open the champagne. Renewed for the 2015-16 season are stalwarts The Good Wife, NCIS, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-o, NCIS: Los Angeles, Criminal Minds, Elementary and Person of Interest, along with freshman entries CSI: Cyber and The Odd Couple. More seasons of Survivor, The Amazing Race, Undercover Boss, 60 Minutes and 48 Hours have also been ordered.

Not on the schedule, however, is flagship series CSI. CBS is plotting an endgame for the long-running police procedural, and that will likely come in the form of a two-hour movie. Fans of CSI was shocked when it was announced that the series was ending, especially given that season 15 just left off on a cliffhanger, but CBS is sure to provide closure even if it’s rearing »

CBS Kills ‘Stalker’ & Renews 15 Returning Series; ‘CSI’ Finale Plans Still in Progress

Stalker” won’t live to see a second season. CBS has decided not to renew the freshman thriller, starring Dylan McDermott and Maggie Q, Variety has learned.

CSI” still awaits a decision for its season 16 series ender, but it has not been axed. The long-running procedural, which wrapped up its 15th round earlier this year, could get a short order, followed by a TV movie for its grand finale.

New spinoff “CSI: Cyber” will be returning for a second season. The Patricia Arquette starrer debuted this past March and airs its first season finale this week.

The network also handed renewals to “NCIS” and spinoff “NCIS: Los Angeles.” (The latest installment, “NCIS: New Orleans,” was previously picked up.) “Blue Bloods,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Elementary,” “Person of Interest,” “The Good Wife” — which just wrapped its sixth season to a four-month ratings high — and “Criminal Minds” will also be back.

American Idol Is Getting Canceled: Next Season Will Be Its Last

11 May 2015 5:00 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

This … is the end of an era: Fox has canceled American Idol, announcing the iconic talent competition will call it quits after returning for a 15th and final season next January. All three current judges will return for the final go-round, along with host Ryan Seacrest. While the show’s ratings collapse over the past three years makes this news not particularly unexpected, it is nonetheless a significant development in American TV history. Idol was, for much of its run, the most dominant show on television — by a mile.Based on a U.K. format, Idol launched as a surprise hit during the summer of 2002, the last of five enduring, blockbuster, genre-defining reality shows TV produced over a two-year frame. (The four other shows: Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, and The Bachelor.) After growing its audience threefold during the course of its first summer season, and turning Kelly Clarkson »

ABC renews 'Last Man Standing' for Season 5

10 May 2015 7:17 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

It's become a little game that ABC plays each spring. In a big burst, the network renews nearly all of its shows and then leaves "Last Man Standing" to sweat it out for a renewal a day or two later. On one hand, it might be considered mean. On the other hand, by doing it this way, "Last Man Standing" gets a separate renewal story all to itself each year. As it ever was, so it is again: Two days after ABC issued every other one of its renewals, "Last Man Standing" has been picked up for a fifth season. In its fourth season, and its third season on Friday nights, "Last Man Standing" averaged 6.8 million viewers and a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49. That's not bad for a comedy with no lead-in on a vicious night, as "Last Man Standing" generally beat CBS' "The Amazing Race" for their shared half-hour. »

TV Ratings: 'Hawaii Five-0' finale, 'Shark Tank' pace normal Friday split

9 May 2015 8:55 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fast National ratings for Friday, May 8, 2015. Although "The Amazing Race" lost handily to "Shark Tank" in Friday's first hour, the two-hour season finale for "Hawaii Five-0" led CBS to its normal overall victory, while ABC ruled the key demo. So... Business as usual. The freshly renewed "Beyond the Tank" held up decently in its second week, the freshly canceled "Messengers" stayed low and two hours of "Dateline" put NBC in second for the night among young viewers. Let's get to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, ABC averaged a 1.4 rating to win Friday night in the key demographic. NBC was second with a 1.1 key demo rating, followed closely by the 1.0 key demo rating for CBS. There was a drop to Fox's 0.4 key demo rating and to The CW's 0.3 key demo rating for Friday night. Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 7.32 million viewers and a 4.7 rating/9 share to comfortably win Friday primetime. »

Recap: 'The Amazing Race' - 'In It To Win It'

8 May 2015 10:45 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Hey! Look at that!  "The Amazing Race" is, indeed, capable of making at least minor corrections. Last season's penultimate episode was, if you'll recall, a bit of a logical mess.  Brooke & Robbie, who I've mostly forgotten, finished first, but got nothing for their trouble, because it was a "Keep On Racing..." Leg. Amy & Maya finished last and not only were they not eliminated and not only did they not face a Speed-Bump in the next Leg because it was a "Keep On Racing..." Leg rather than a Non-Elimination Leg, but they went on to win, becoming one of the two or three least dominant "Amazing Race" winners ever. It was stupid. Because the last Leg always begins with travel back to the United States and is usually an Equalizer, Brooke & Robbie didn't win a prize as the winners of the Leg, didn't get a time advantage and basically did a Leg of activities for nothing, »
