DC Entertainment’s ‘Scalped,’ ‘Roadside Picnic’ Grab WGN America Pilot Orders

14 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

WGN America has give pilot orders to two drama projects: a DC Entertainment adaptation of the graphic novel series “Scalped” and a futuristic vehicle based on the Russian sci-fi novel “Roadside Picnic.”

“Scalped,” from DC Entertainment and Warner Horizon Television, revolves around a power struggle among Native American leaders of a reservation. It is envisioned as having a largely Native American cast. “Roadside Picnic,” from Sony Pictures TV and Tribune Studios, is set in the near future after aliens have come and gone from Earth.

The pilot orders are a signal that WGN America is plowing ahead with original series development after parent company Tribune Media formally hung out the “For Sale” sign and took a $381 million write-down on the value of the cabler last week. WGN is among the assets that could be sold off as Tribune Media seeks to boost its share price and returns for its largest equity owners, »

Amazon Prime to Kill Off ‘Ripper Street’ After Fifth Season

19 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

London — The fifth season of crime drama “Ripper Street” will be its last, Amazon Prime has revealed.

Amazon stepped in to save “Ripper Street” in early 2014, following outcry from fans when the show was cancelled by the BBC after two seasons. The original Tiger Aspect production team was commissioned by Amazon to create season three, which launched exclusively for Prime members in the U.K. in November 2014.

At the same time, seasons one and two were made available for unlimited streaming for Prime members. When season three launched on Prime Video, it was streamed more than any other TV show on the service and was the most popular British drama amongst customers.

In the final season, writer Richard Warlow shows how, as the Victorian age comes to a close, the police officers of H Division attempt to maintain law and order on the streets of Whitechapel. Joseph Mawle (“In the Heart of the Sea »

‘The Bachelor’ Recap: The 7 Most Important Takeaways From ‘The Women Tell All’

2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

After weeks of sifting, Season 20’s Bachelor, Ben Higgins, has narrowed down the playing field to two women: Lauren and JoJo. Since we have to wait until next week to find out who wins Ben’s heart (oh, the suspense!), this week we are stuck in a room with the rejects for two hours.

Season after season, the “Women Tell All” episode is more or less a glorified clip show (it probably deserves a format revamp). But amid the mundanity, there were several moments worth talking about.

1. Sheila The Chicken Acts Out

Undeniably, one of the best parts of each “Bachelor” season happens before the first episode, when the contestants are revealed — along with their always surprising, very rarely legitimate occupations. At the beginning of this episode, it was clear that most of the ladies were right where we left them: the twins are still Twins, Rachel is still Unemployed, »

Blindspot Review: Scientists Hollow Fortune

2 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Blindspot returned in a big way last week with its mid-season premiere, so let’s jump right in and take a look at this week’s new episode, “Scientists Hollow Fortune.” The episode opens with Jane and Oscar discussing her first mission now that she’s more aware of what’s going on. She still isn’t really into doing what he’s telling her, but the thought that it was her plan and the knowledge that Oscar will tell her more is all the motivation she needs to make a bit of an effort. I’ve got to admit, I’m really intrigued by this new dynamic

Better Call Saul Review: “You Went A Long Way To Not Pull That Trigger.”

Many years from now, Mike will sit down with a man about to make a decision. He’ll try to convince him to do what must be done; that if he continues to try and work around the problem, he’ll just end up right back where he started. So Walt does; he kills the dealers, and then has Jesse kill Gale, guaranteeing their safety. Though not quite what Mike had in mind, it’s exactly the action he advised taking. This Mike Ehrmantraut; the Breaking Bad Mike Ehermantraut; is not the same person that we see in Better Call Saul. This is an obvious statement,

‘Gotham’ Star Ben McKenzie Talks Mr. Freeze Twist, Jim’s Downward Spiral

5 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Spoiler warning: Do not read on unless you’ve seen “Gotham” Season 2, Episode 13, titled “A Dead Man Feels No Cold.”

The tragic saga of Mr. Freeze (Nathan Darrow) seemed to come to an abrupt end on tonight’s “Gotham,” with the scientist appearing to end his own life after losing his wife — but unbeknownst to Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and the Gcpd, the chilly villain survived his apparent demise, waking up with a frosty makeover in Hugo Strange’s (Bd Wong) underground facility, Indian Hill, with an icy chip on his shoulder.

While Jim remains unaware of the forces that are building against him under the city — and right under his nose, if we count Edward Nygma’s (Cory Michael Smith) recent behavior — he has more immediate issues, namely the strain on his relationship with Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) and the blackmail material that Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) has on him, »

Gotham Season 2 Episode 13 Review: ”A Dead Man Feels No Cold”

5 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

After a powerful return in last week’s episode, this week’s Gotham was another solid follow-up despite its oddly fast pacing in the storyline between Mr. Freeze and Hugo Strange. I will admit that as terrifying and creepy as the whole Indian Hill plot was in this week, I was left mostly confused and I get it, that’s the point because it’s too early to give away all the answers this soon in the season. But at the same time, it felt like they are trying to accomplish two major things that may not necessarily come all together at the end.
