Samsung Galaxy S7 teardown reveals Sony IMX260 Dual-pixel sensor

At the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge the Korean manufacturer did not provide any official information about the makers of the the new devices' camera module. However, now a teardown from Chipworks has confirmed rumors that the S7 captures its images on a Sony IMX260 sensor with 12MP resolution, 1.4um pixel size and dual pixel AF across the entire sensor. Lee introduces 15-stop Super Stopper neutral density filter

Lee Filters has announced a 15 stop neutral density filter, able to convert what would normally be a two-second exposure into one that lasts 17 hours and 4 minutes. The new Super Stopper reduces the amount of light entering the lens to enable especially long shutter speeds in normal daylight conditions. Read more

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS60 / TZ80 real-world samples and studio comparison

Panasonic's ZS60 puts a lot of enticing features in a very small package. Corephotonics launches 5x zoom and low noise smartphone camera modules

Corephotonics, a provider of computational camera solutions based in Israel has launched a new dual-camera module for smartphones called Hawkeye. Hawkeye combines a standard 13MP camera module with a second 13MP module that uses proprietary folded optics. Read more

End of an era: Fujifilm to discontinue FP-100C instant film

Fujifilm Japan has announced that it is to stop production of its FP-100C instant film that enthusiasts use in old Polaroid-type cameras. The film has only been available in the 3.25x4.25in size recently, but it has been keeping vintage cameras clicking since Polaroid stopped production itself. Read more

Polaroid-branded BrightSaber Pro wand packs 298 LEDs

A Polaroid-branded handheld light wand 'BrightSaber' is now available, packing 289 LED lights into a frosted tubular diffuser. The BrightSaber offers a built-in, secondary tungsten filter. Read more

Raw workflow goes mobile: Hands-on with Adobe Lightroom for Android 2.0

Unlike iOS, Android supports the capture and processing of Raw photos. Chances are that if you own a late model mobile device running either Lollipop or Marshmallow, you should now be able to use the Adobe DNG Raw format, the headline feature in the recently updated Lightroom for Android 2.0. SD card 5.0 protocol supports up to 8K video recording but risks confusion

The SD Association has introduced a Video Speed Class rating, designed to identify cards capable of 8K, 4K, 3D and 360° video capture. The speed class, which guarantees minimum sustained performance, comprises five ratings: V6 (6MB/sec), V10 (10MB/sec), V30 (30MB/sec), V60 (60MB/sec) and V90 (90MB/sec). Confused? Read more

Nikon extends service advisory for D750 to include more models

Nikon has announced that the shutter fault in its D750 may be found in cameras from a much wider manufacturing period than initially thought. The company has discovered the issue, in which the shutter occasionally shades part of the image, in cameras made from December 2014 to June 2015. Read more

Sand and sun: Sony a6300 real-world samples

The Sony a6300 has some sizable shoes to step into. With a 24MP CMOS APS-C sensor, 8 fps continuous shooting with live view, 425-point on-sensor phase detect AF system and 4K video capture it looks like a solid update to the a6000, at least on paper. Eager to get our hands on a fully functional model, we joined Sony in Miami for some shooting opportunities. Read more

DJI's Phantom 4 boasts improved camera optics and obstacle avoidance

DJI has updated its flagship drone range with the Phantom 4, which offers automatic obstacle avoidance and 'dramatically' improved camera optics. With a 12MP sensor and F2.8 lens the Phantom 4 is capable of Raw still shooting and 4K/UHD video at 30p as well as new machine vision technology adding subject tracking and object avoidance. Read more

Topaz Labs DeNoise 6 adds standalone option, batch processing, camera profiles

Topaz Labs has released DeNoise 6, the latest version of its noise-removal software. This latest installment can be used as a standalone application in addition to functioning as a plugin for host software like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop; it also adds batch image processing as well as profile presets for dozens of camera models. Tamrac has a new line of Goblin gear pouches designed for lenses and cameras, as well as larger accessory pouches for storing multiple items together. CP+ 2016: Fujifilm gets new X-Pro2 and X70 into photographers' hands

Fujifilm didn't announce any new products at CP+ this year, but the show is the first chance that a lot of Japanese enthusiast photographers have had to get their hands on the X-Pro2 and X70, which were unveiled last month. In an effort to get cameras into photographers' hands, Fujifilm is running a rental service at this year's show, where prospective X-series users can hire gear while they're attending the show. Roger and Aaron over at LensRentals have been tearing lenses down again. This week they've 'eviscerated' Fujifilm's XF 55-200mm F3.5-4.8R LM OIS - the company's mid-price tele zoom. Macphun offers Aurora HDR Pro 3-month payment plan

Macphun has announced a new 3-month payment plan for Aurora HDR Pro, the image editing application for Mac OS X it launched in November. Rather than requiring the full $99 USD price at the time of purchase, the payment plan allows users to pay $33 per month for three months, while still gaining immediate access to the software license. Polaroid launches Eyeball panoramic tripod head

A remote control spinning tripod head that is said to be ideal for shooting panoramas has been launched in the US and UK by Polaroid. The Panorama Eyeball Head fits on a tripod or stands freely on its own feet, and can accommodate DSLRs as well as compacts. The control unit connects with the head via an IR link and manages both the speed and direction of rotation. Read more

Leica and Huawei announce partnership to 'reinvent smartphone photography'

We've seen established members of the optical industry partner with smartphone makers before – Nokia high-end phones used to come with Carl Zeiss branded lenses, and Schneider Kreuznach optics have been used in various models from Chinese manufacturer Oppo. Tamron is showing off two brand new lenses at CP+ this year - the SP 85mm F1.8 Di VC USD and SP 90mm F2.8 Di VC USD 1:1 Macro. Tether Tools' Case Relay provides continuous power for many DSLR and mirrorless cameras

The Case Relay Camera Power System from Tether Tools offers 'infinite camera power' for a wide range of DSLR and mirrorless cameras. The system works via a DC coupler that plugs into both the camera’s battery port and the Case Relay. The Relay plugs into either a 5V USB external battery or a wall outlet. Read more

CP+ 2016: Hands-on with new Sigma SD cameras and lenses

Sigma announced several products at CP+ 2016, including two new cameras. The interchangeable lens SD Quattro And SD Quattro H represent a departure for the company in two senses - both are mirrorless cameras, and the 'H' features an APS-H format sensor. More conventional are a 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM Art zoom and 30mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary prime for mirrorless cameras. Read more

SLR Magic’s Anamorphot-Cine 1.33x lenses now shipping with revised specification

Lens manufacturer SLR Magic has announced 'significant' changes to the optical and mechanical specification of its Anamorphot-Cine 1.33x anamorphic lenses, which it says are now available. The lens set was first shown at IBC at the end of last year, but the company says the latest versions have crucial differences – although they don’t say exactly what those differences are. Read more

History Repeating: Olympus PEN-F Review

Olympus has brought new life – and a new face – to the famed film-era PEN series with the all-new digital PEN-F. The PEN-F is a 20MP rangefinder-style interchangeable lens camera that inherits a lot of features from the OM-D E-M5 II, including 5-axis image stabilization and a high resolution shooting mode. Oppo announces first sensor-based IS for smartphones

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has a history of launching smartphone models with novel camera features and concepts, and has just launched the first sensor-based image stabilization system for smartphones at MWC. Oppo calls it the smallest image stabilizer of its kind, and claims it's able to correct for shake with greater precision than current optical stabilization systems. Read more

Panasonic adds weather-resistant Lumix G Vario 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 Power OIS to lens lineup

With the start of CP+ 2016 just one day away, Panasonic is introducing the Lumix G Vario 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH Power O.I.S. to its family of Micro Four Thirds lenses. Featuring a splash and dustproof design, the lens is compatible with Panasonic's Dual IS feature, currently available on the Lumix DMC-GX8. Read more
