Ratings: Fox’s ‘Empire’ Hits Season Low, Still Dominates Wednesday

8 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Fox drama “Empire” has dominated another Wednesday in the ratings race, but it fell to its season low as it nears the end of its fall run. A special one-time lead-in from “The Voice,” meanwhile, helped lift NBC’s “Law & Order: Svu” to a season high.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “Empire” averaged a 4.2 rating/13 share in adults 18-49 and 11.1 million viewers overall, down 9% (0.4) from last week in the demo to its lowest rating since the second episode of its rookie season. It still ruled its timeslot, drawing about as many young adults as the combined tallies of the timeslot’s No. 2 (ABC) and No. 3 (NBC) rated networks. Leadoff hitter “Rosewood” (1.4/5 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall) was down just a tenth and matched its low.

At NBC, a special live playoffs episode of “The Voice” won the 8 o’clock hour with a 2.4 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 and »

Late-Night Ratings: Jimmy Kimmel Overtakes Stephen Colbert for First Time

9 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

After weeks of lagging CBS’ shiny new “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in the late-night ratings race, ABC veteran “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is starting to make some noise — edging ahead of original episodes of the Eye program for the first time.

In Nielsen’s “live plus same-day” estimates for the week of Nov. 2-6, which saw NBC’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” remain a dominant No. 1, “Kimmel” bested “Late Show” by 5% in both adults 18-49 rating (0.60 vs. 0.57) and total viewers (2.626 million vs. 2.492 million). The ABC program got a boost on Thursday when a visit by Hillary Clinton produced its most-watched telecast on any night in six months (3.116 million). It also won by 22% in 18-49 over “Late Show” that night (0.73 vs. 0.60).

Jimmy Kimmel Live” was the only 11:35 p.m. talkshow up week to week, rising 6% in 18-49 and 10% in total viewers; the show’s Tuesday averages were excluded due to Election Night coverage. »

Like Marvel's last Netflix offering Daredevil, which I loved, the NYC of Jessica Jones is grittier than real-life Manhattan in recent years. And… »

From murder to ghosts to vampires, the cast of “American Horror Story: Hotel” has faced plenty of scary subjects. But a sex scene with Lady Gaga? That’s a whole new brand of fear.

“Being in a sexual situation with the Countess, having to sign a nudity waiver about how it was going to go, that was the scariest [moment],” laughed Angela Bassett, whose character, Ramona, had a romantic relationship with Lady Gaga’s the Countess.

The cast of FX’s horror anthology spoke to reporters on the set of the show Wednesday, talking about their real-life fears and shooting this particular dark — and sexy — season of “American Horror Story.” And they all have different ways of dealing with all of that.

Bassett, for instance, said Gaga told her to feel at ease for their steamy scene, and they’re even able to joke about it now. In fact, Bassett revealed »
