Is 16mp enough?

We've had the same X-Trans sensor for over 3 years now while other manufacturers have released amazing high mp bodies one after another. Whenever Fuji decides to release the next X-series camera, it better have more than 16mp. However the work done with our current X-cameras will remain 16mp.

4k and 5k displays are getting more and more popular nowadays and some people will even have 8k displays in the very near future. That means 16mp images taken with the Fuji cameras will look like thumbnails and that's before cropping! And think about how disgusting the watercolor effect will look then (Let's be honest here, Adobe has no intention to fix that).

I suppose 16mp is fine for small prints, but most people showcase their work only in digital format nowadays.

So my question is - is 16mp enough to be future proof or should we just sell our fujis?
