Macro Advisory Partners

Nader Mousavizadeh is Partner and Co-founder of Macro Advisory Partners. From 2010-2013, Nader was Chief Executive of Oxford Analytica, the global analysis and advisory firm.

Previously an investment banker at Goldman Sachs from 2004-2009, he worked in the Financial Institutions M&A group in New York, and was latterly based in Europe with a number of global client relationships. Before entering the private sector, he served at the United Nations, as a political officer in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and in the Executive Office of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan from 1997-2003.

Elected a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum, Nader is a widely published contributor to The Financial Times, The New York Times, and Foreign Policy, and is a foreign affairs columnist for Reuters. He is the co-author, with Kofi Annan, of Interventions: A Life in War and Peace. Nader graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, and was a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford where he received an M.Phil. in International Relations before obtaining an MBA from MIT as a Sloan Fellow at the Sloan School of Management. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Farm Africa.

Sir John Sawers is Partner and Chairman of Macro Advisory Partners*.

He completed his five-year tenure as Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in November 2014. Prior to joining SIS he was the UK’s Permanent Representative (Ambassador) to the United Nations (2007-2009), Political Director of the Foreign Office (2003-2007), Special Representative in Iraq (2003), Ambassador to Cairo (2001-2003) and Foreign Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister (1999-2001).

Sir John joins Macro Advisory Partners as Chairman on leaving British government service after 36 years. Sir John’s other positions have included Principal Private Secretary to the Foreign Secretary and postings in Washington, Pretoria, Damascus and Sana’a.

In recognition of Sir John’s years of public and diplomatic service, he was made a GCMG in the 2015 New Year’s Honours List.

David Claydon is Partner and Co-founder of Macro Advisory Partners.

David spent fifteen years building macro investing, advisory and research businesses at J.P. Morgan and Morgan Stanley and leads the firm’s analysis at the intersection of politics, markets and economics.

David has two decades of experience conducting this analysis in public and private sector roles, on both sides of the Atlantic: starting his career as a Legislative Assistant for Richard A. Gephardt, then Majority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, he moved to Wall Street in 1993.

From 2008 to 2010 David worked for the U.K. Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs as Specialist Economic Advisor. In mid-2010 David returned briefly to finance at UBS as head of Macro Trading Strategy in the Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities division.

David is a fellow of the RSA, a Trustee of the IPPR and of Great Ormond Street Hospital’s paediatric medical research charity. David holds a first class degree in Government from the University of Essex.

Mona Sutphen is a Partner of Macro Advisory Partners. Mona joins the firm in New York after spending three years at UBS AG as Managing Director, covering geopolitical risk and macro-policy trends. Mona served as White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy from 2009 – 2011.

From 2001 to 2008, she was Managing Director at Stonebridge International, a global strategy consulting firm advising multinational corporations and financial institutions.  Prior to Stonebridge, Mona was a U.S. Foreign Service Officer from 1991-2000, serving in the Clinton Administration on the staff of the National Security Council at the White House, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, the Office of the High Representative in Sarajevo, the State Department and at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok.

Mona is co-author of The Next American Century:  How the U.S. Can Thrive as Other Powers Rise. Mona is a member of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB) and serves on the Boards of the International Rescue Committee and Human Rights First.  She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Mona holds a BA from Mount Holyoke College and an MSc from the London School of Economics.

Mike Daly is a Partner of Macro Advisory Partners. Mike joins the firm in London following four years as Executive Vice President Exploration and a member of the Group Executive Team at BP plc, the global energy company.

Mike had a 28 year career in BP, the last eight of which were as Head of Exploration and New Business Development. In addition to a global knowledge of oil and gas resources and exploration, he has personal experience of a number of major oil producing countries and their National Oil Companies. He has lived both in Venezuela and the Middle East and worked closely with the leadership of several OPEC countries.

Mike is a Non Executive Director of Tullow Oil, an Africa-focused independent E&P company. He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford where he is pursuing a number of research interests in resource occurrence and shale in the UK.

An alumni of Harvard Business School, he is a member of the World Economic Forum ‘Arctic Agenda’ Council and the British Geological Survey Advisory Board.
