KIANGAN, Ifugao, Dec.9 (PIA)- -The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) recently  gave an  award of recognition to the local government unit of this historic town for consistently commemorating the heroism of freedom fighters in the Philippines during World War II (WWII).

The award was received by Kiangan Mayor Joselito Guyguyon from Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Voltaire Gazmin during the 42nd anniversary celebration of the PVAO in  in Camp General Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

Gazmin said  the award is in recognition of the unwavering support and invaluable contribution of the local government unit of Kiangan in the promotion of valor and heroism of the country’s veterans.

It can be recalled that since 1992, the Province of Ifugao and the Municipality of Kiangan have been  observing  every September 2 as “Victory Day”  to honor all those who fought and shed their blood for the liberation of the country during WWII.

Their gallantry and sacrifice led to the surrender of Japanese Imperial Army General Tomoyuki Yamashita in Kiangan on September 2, 1945 that liberated  Philippines  from the Japanese and eventually ended WWII.(JDP/DBC- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
