Confirming earlier rumors, Robert De Niro has now said he will be taking part in David O. Russell's upcoming film Joy. While speaking at a press conference in Rome following a screening of Remembering the Artist: Robert De Niro, Sr., a film about the actor's late father, De Niro answered a question about taking part in Russell's latest project. "Yes I am going to do something with them. I am going to play a father," De Niro said. Jon M. Chu and Focus team for 90s high school dance movie

Get your Hammer pants out. Focus Features and Jon M. Chu, the director of Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D, are teaming for a dance movie titled Can't Touch This.  Chu and producing partner Hieu Ho have sold the 90s-set "high school dance comedy" to Focus Features, EW has confirmed. While Chu will not be directing Can't Touch This, he is on board to helm the sequel to Now You See Me. According to Deadline, who first reported the news, The Goldbergs producer Annie Mebane and Steve Basilone will write the script. Focus Features did not immediately return a request for comment. »

Patty Jenkins to Direct Action-Comedy Remake Jackpot

It appears that Monster director Patty Jenkins is now close to making her second feature film in over a decade.  The talented filmmaker was previously attached to helm Thor: The Dark World but subsequently dropped out over creative differences with Marvel.  Her other credits include directing the pilot for AMC’s The Killing as well as episodes of Entourage and Arrested Development, but now THR reports that she’s turning her attention to the action-comedy genre with a remake of the 2011 Norwegian film Jackpot.  Based on a story by crime author Jo Nesbo (Headhunters and The Snowman), the film revolves around four men who win big in a sports pool, only to resort to lethal measures when dividing the winnings proves difficult. Korea Box Office: ‘Interstellar’ is Light Years Ahead of Pack

Seoul – Sci-fi “Interstellar” which clocked up an extraordinary opening frame in Korea, maintained its dominant hold on the top spot at the weekend’s box office.

Its market share, 73% last weekend, went up to 76% during the weekend period from Friday to Sunday. “Interstellar” scored $13.2 million (Krw 14.5 billion), bringing its cumulative score to $35.3 million (Krw 38.8 billion).

“Cart” a Korean social drama about unfairly dismissed market workers climbed 26 places to second place. Hailed as the first commercially-produced film with a strong social message in Korea, the film boasts a strong cast of veteran actresses as well as a hugely popular K-pop idol, Do Kyung-soo (a.k.a. D.O from the boy band, Exo).  “Cart” scored $2.01 million (KRW2.20 billion) taking its cume to $2.86 million.

Local high school comedy, “Fashion King” dropped one place to number three. “Gone Girl” also slipped a place. The Cameraon Diaz starrer, “The Other Woman” debuted at fifth place, »

Brad Anderson To Direct Actioner ‘Shadow Run’ For Sony

Sony has just signed The Machinist‘s Brad Anderson to direct Shadow Run, the action thriller script by writer Joe Gazzam (Cliffhanger, Replay) that the studio picked up in February. The Bourne-esque spy tale is produced by Neil Moritz for Original Film and exec produced by Hernany Perla; Michael De Luca and Andrea Giannetti will oversee for Sony. Anderson, who broke out with the Christian Bale starrer The Machinist and has notched features Transsiberian, The Call, and the recent Stonehearst Aslum in recent years, has also been directing for TV on shows including The Wire, Fringe, Boardwalk Empire, and The Killing. Anderson recently helmed the pilot for Forever for ABC, WB TV, and Lin Pictures. He’s repped by Wme, Lbi Entertainment and Sloss Law.

‘Machinist’ Helmer Tapped to Direct Action Pic ‘Shadow Run’ for Sony

Sony Pictures has set “Machinist” helmer Brad Anderson to direct the action pic “Shadow Run.”

Neal H. Moritz and Hernany Perla are producing.

The plot details are being kept under wraps, but insiders have described the film as “Safe House” on a plane.

Sony bought the spec, that Joe Gazzam penned, last February after several studios entered the mix for it. Michael De Luca and Andrea Giannetti are overseeing for the studio.

Anderson last directed “The Call” starring Halle Berry. Other past credits include “Eliza Graves” starring Kate Beckinsale and “Transsiberian” starring Woody Harrelson.

He has also directed a handful of TV episodes for shows like “Boardwalk Empire” and “The Killing.”

He is repped by Wme and Lbi Entertainment.

China Release of ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1′ Delayed Until Next Year

The Chinese launch of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1″ has been delayed from Friday until next year.

Lionsgate had no comment about the delay.

“Mockingjay,” the third film in the “Hunger Games” franchise, will begin opening in some international markets such as Brazil and France on Wednesday and expand on Thursday and Friday, when the U.S. opens.

On Oct. 16, Lionsgate announced that it would launch the press tour for the film on Nov. 1 in Beijing, but subsequently scrubbed that event. It held the world premiere on Nov. 10 at Leicester Square in London with the cast including Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

The Los Angeles premiere takes place Monday night at the Nokia Live Theater.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” grossed $27 million in China, the fifth-largest international gross after the U.K., Germany, Australia and France. That release was not delayed in China.
