Samuel Jackson Is Mad At Marvel Over Black Panther

12 March 2017 8:37 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Samuel L. Jackson is a very busy actor, having starred in over 20 movies in the past five years. However, one movie he won’t be appearing in is Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther film…and he’s not happy about that!

Phase Three of the Disney produced McU will introduce some diversity to the super hero universe. The Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman—who was a scene stealer in Captain America: Civil War—will feature an impressive cast including Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Daniel Kaluuya, Sterling K. Brown and Forest Whitaker.

One name that’s not included on this list is Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in the McU. Having expected to be included, Jackson voiced his disappointment about being left out while talking to Sirius Xm to promote his newest film Kong: Skull Island.

Jackson said, “I can't go to Wakanda, »

X-Men: Michael Jackson wanted to play Professor X

Joseph Baxter Mar 3, 2017

The original X-Men movie had some potentially very different casting, as one of its writers reveals...

With Logan out in cinemas now, showcasing what will apparently be Hugh Jackman’s final outing in his 17-year cinematic run as Wolverine, some are understandably nostalgic about the legendary tenure. In a recent interview, screenwriter David Hayter – a key component of Fox's early X-Men movie franchise – discusses some casting prospects that the original production considered in director Bryan Singer’s genre-defining 2000 original film.

Speaking with THR, Hayter looks back on the days of the X-Men film's gestation.

Hayter, a name video game connoisseurs will recognise as the perennial voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear series, wrote the screenplay to 2000’s X-Men, based on a story collaboration with Singer and Tom DeSanto, later tackling sequel X2: X-Men United and Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. »

2 March 2017 8:23 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Angela Bassett already looks incredible, but according to trainer Corey Calliet, her body will be “10 times better” when he’s done training her for Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther movie.

“I’m taking what she has and making it 10 times better and giving her the shape that she wants,” Calliet — who began working with Bassett ahead of production and will continue to work with her on set — tells People.

“While she’s filming, she’ll be with me every day,” he continues. “We film five days a week and I’m always on set, so if she needs something to happen, »

The true story behind Dougray Scott playing Wolverine in X-Men and why Hugh Jackman took over

Luke Owen looks back at a time when Hugh Jackman was not Wolverine

There was a lot of buzz and excitement in 1999. People around planet earth were excited to see what the new Millennium would bring; while big companies panicked that the Y2K bug would kill all their hard work and shut down the working world. For Dougray Scott, 1999 was set to be the year that changed his career. He had been handpicked by Tom Cruise to play the villain in M:i:2 and he was set to play Wolverine in Bryan Singer’s X-Men.

The adaptation of the popular Marvel Comics property had been a long one. In 1984 Marvel writers Gerry Conway and Rob Thomas wrote a screenplay for production company Orion Pictures (Platoon) who had optioned the film rights. But when the company fell into financial troubles the rights went over to Carolco Pictures (First Blood) who began »

Just How Many Black Actors Have Won an Oscar? The Number Is Disturbingly Low

26 February 2017 10:15 PM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Image Source: Getty / Lee Celano The Oscars have been plagued by obvious race issues since they began in 1929, and things seemingly came to a head with the #OscarsSoWhite discussion a couple of years ago; the overwhelming lack of diversity in nominees in both 2015 and 2016 resulted in Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs taking bigger, more noticeable steps to double the number of diverse members in its voting body by 2020. Nevertheless, a black actor (the incomparable Sidney Poitier) wasn't awarded until 1964, and it was only in 2002 that Halle Berry became the first black woman to win a best actress trophy. At this year's ceremony, Mahershala Ali and Viola Davis won for their supporting roles, adding to a pretty short list. So, just how many black actors have won Oscars over the years? Sixteen. A whopping sixteen distinguished, talented people in 89 years. Scroll through to see who they are and learn about the records they've broken. »

Halle Berry's Oscar Acceptance Speech Will Still Make You Cry, Even 15 Years Later

23 February 2017 5:05 PM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Halle Berry's Oscar win for Monster's Ball made her the first black woman to win best actress and only the second to win an Academy Award since the ceremony's inception in 1929. She gave a heartfelt, emotional speech that still brings us to tears thanks to its sincerity and passion; Berry didn't just accept the honor on her behalf, but paid homage to the women of color who came before her. "This moment is so much bigger than me," Berry told the crowd through tears. "This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll. It's for the women that stand beside me, Jada Pinkett, Angela Bassett, Vivica Fox. And it's for every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened." Berry will be returning to the Oscars stage on Sunday to mark the 15th anniversary of her historic win, and »

Newswire: Samuel L. Jackson wants Nick Fury to be in Black Panther

19 February 2017 2:11 PM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

The cast of Marvel’s Black Panther movie is ridiculously stacked, with Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Sterling K. Brown joining Chadwick Boseman’s superhero king in the fictional country of Wakanda, but one established Marvel actor is a little disappointed that he hasn’t gotten a call. Speaking with We Got This Covered, Samuel L. Jackson suggested that he thinks Marvel isn’t using him quite as often as it should, which is to say that he (rightfully) thinks he should be in basically every Marvel movie. Jackson’s Nick Fury last appeared in Avengers: Age Of Ultron and probably won’t show up again until Avengers: Infinity War, but he was really hoping he’d get a chance to meet the Black Panther:

I asked them, “So you’re doing Black Panther and the only black character in the Marvel Universe is not showing up?” And they »

‘Feud’: Inside Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon’s Take on a Hollywood Battle Royale

15 February 2017 9:45 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Dressed in a black ensemble topped by a long brown coat, Ryan Murphy darts back and forth between two rooms in the chilly Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. On this January day, a cramped space in this deliciously retro complex houses the monitors for Murphy as he directs an episode of his new FX series “Feud: Bette and Joan” that is set at the 1963 Academy Awards.

It’s a pivotal moment in the famous rivalry between legendary actresses Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Having co-starred in “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?” both women wanted the career boost of appearing on the Oscar podium. While it’s tough to spoil an event that happened more than five decades ago, let’s just say it was, to quote Davis, a “bumpy night.”

Feud” — which debuts March 5 — mines that decades-old conflict to tell a modern and highly relevant story about Hollywood, sexism, and survival.

Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther Will Stage A Huge Chase Sequence In South Korea

1 February 2017 3:08 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Variety is reporting that Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther movie has drafted up plans for a suitably huge chase sequence in Busan, South Korea.

Citing sources from within local production company Mr. Romance Film, the report claims said sequence is a thrilling car chase scene involving the protagonist (Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa) and the villain (Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger, perhaps?). More than 700 extras will populate the scene, with Variety going on to note that “helicopter(s) and guns (firing blanks)” will also feature.

Darrin Prescott, second unit director on Marvel’s Black Panther, reportedly approached the Powers That Be about using the fishing port of Busan as a potential shooting location last year, and the rest is history. Thanks to the likes of Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange, the McU is beginning to incorporate scores of international locations, and it’s refreshing to learn that Coogler’s Black Panther »

Black Panther: Official Synopsis & Full Cast List Revealed!

27 January 2017 8:38 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Like many of Marvel Studio’s superheroes, Black Panther is one that could have been ruined by his execution in Captain America: Civil War. To get audiences to respond to a man who dressed up as — and fights like — a cat was bound to be difficult in a world that hops between sci-fi and grounded hyper-realism. Would Black Panther come across as intended, or would he look silly and campy in this universe of high-tech supers?

The result was a joy to watch. His fighting style was vicious, his costume amazingly faithful — and yet very practical. Better still was the character arc they managed to put in that film. On the heels of his father’s death, T’Challa was hell-bent on getting revenge. It was only after seeing the Avengers get torn apart that he realized the errors of his thinking.

So what’s next for Black Panther? We »
