The Buzz: Everyone's back in place for the sequel to the breakout hit that outperformed most Tyler Perry movies almost 2:1.

Certificate R   -   Biography | Drama | Musical

The story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s rock group The Four Seasons.

The Buzz: It's always a risk to pull a musical off the stage in attempt to make filmed entertainment, but it's also a no-brainer to hand over this particular story - essentially a four-character biography - to an established director. Does that mean we think Clint Eastwood was the right choice to helm the project? No. Do we think it's near impossible to market a musical with no stars? Yes. And if we're at all correct, we think this explains the lack of a push for this summer release, which might have done better in the fall.

Certificate R   -   Drama | Romance

Three interlocking love stories involving three couples in three cities: Rome, Paris, and New York.

The Buzz: Paul Haggis tried to interlock with his writing style that initially worked for Crash (though what is that movie's true legacy?), but the results this time around have underwhelmed critics. Sony Pictures Classics only puts out a stinker every now and then, and we wouldn't be surprised one bit if Haggis's next project is about a disillusioned filmmaker.

  -   Drama

Metascore: 66/100 (10 reviews)
An actress attempts to convince a director how she's perfect for a role in his upcoming production.

The Buzz: Roman Polanski's latest has been embraced by critics who love seeing him back in psychosexual territory with a stripped down two-hander that has no awards ambition and able to wipe away memory of Polanski's shockingly mechanical reproduction of the play Carnage

The Buzz: Remember when major summer sci-fi movies opened over the Fourth of July holiday? Michael Bay shuffled his cast and restyled the vehicles for the fourth chapter of his global juggernaut, which will give new leading man Mark Wahlberg a second taste of international success after Ted's record-shattering run.

Certificate R   -   Action | Drama | Sci-Fi

In a future where a failed global-warming experiment kills off all life on the planet except for a lucky few that boarded the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe, where a class system evolves.

The Buzz: Grr, yes, we know that Harvey Weinstein has diced up Bong Joon-ho's artistic vision, but what do you expect when a filmmaker goes into business with that particular studio? It's a hot-blooded union that sometimes results in successful Oscar campaigns and other times, unforgivable tragedies. And don't forget the number of projects that get a lot of pre-release attention and then are quietly pushed out to theaters. Or worse: just shelved. Genre fans will grab ahold of this one, but we fear its chances of crossover success - even with Captain American facing off against Social Services - are minimal.

Certificate R   -   Documentary | Biography | Crime

Number 2 on America's Most Wanted list after Osama Bin Laden, James 'Whitey' Bulger terrorized the city of Boston for years without ever being charged with so much as a misdemeanor. Bulger was a monster, murdering over a dozen known victims, but did the FBI and local law enforcement give his reign of terror over South Boston a free pass?

The Buzz: We hear Joel Berlinger's documentary on Whitey Bulger is quite clinical - no big surprise after you take in the project's mouthful of a title. So this is an opportunity for the uninitiated to share a row with crime buffs and dig into the myriad ways in which police forces and federal agencies work with organized crime operatives. Then you can see the American Hustle version next year when Black Mass, starring a Johnny Depp and a partially bald cap as Bulger, is released next fall.

Certificate R   -   Biography | Drama

Metascore: 47/100 (6 reviews)
A look at the life of French designer Yves Saint Laurent from the beginning of his career in 1958 when he met his lover and business partner, Pierre Berge.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: We love to watch fashion-world biographies for their art direction and the opportunity to watch a performer try to mimic a real-life eccentric, but when it comes to the actual narrative, we'd typically rather watch a documentary over a feature. Consider the case of Yves Saint Laurent, whose career began when Christian Dior died unexpected at the age of 52, positioning the untested designer as the heir to the house of Dior … only to find himself dropped into a life-altering stint in the French army three years later. And that's just the beginning of his adult life, which is worthy of a detailed, sprawling documentary - not merely two competing biopics in the same year (Saint Laurent screened at Cannes back in May).
