My Parents Al and Mildred Clark

Al & Mildred were born and raised in SE Arkansas in Arkansas County (DeWitt and St Charles). Al was an only child. Mildred was one of nine. They both grew up without indoor plumbing. They were married in 1958 and worked their way through Henderson State University.

In 1960, they moved to Hot Springs where Al taught at Cutter Morning Star and later Lakeside. They have pastored several churches while raising 3 children. They pastored Grace Church of the Nazarene (Hot Springs), Nady Church of the Nazarene (Tichnor), Mount Olive Union Church (Hot Springs/Amity Rd), First Church of God (Hot Springs) and founded and currently pastor the Church of Philadelphia (Hot Springs).

They founded Clarks Building & Decorating Center (then Clark Materials), a lumberyard, and flooring store in 1973 and have grown it into a well-known and successful family business. They are still active in the business when not busy raising cows, chickens, goats, ducks, and catfish. They stay active with 10 grandchildren, great grandchildren, the business, the church, and the farm.

I am  married to the former Jana Pruitt.  We have been married for 32 years and were high school sweethearts.  We met at CMS from where we both graduated. I transferred to CMS from Lakeside in the 11th grade.  Jana is the Office Manager at Clarks. Jana's parents are Ralph Pruitt and Juanita Ferguson. Ralph is retired from Entergy where he worked at the Remmel Steam Plant at Jones Mill. Juanita, a teacher, retired from Hot Springs High.

We have two children. Drew, who graduated from Cutter Morning Star, is manager of the newest store IDEAS by Clarks a flooring and decorating store on Albert Pike in Hot Springs. Shay graduated from Lakeside and more recently earned her Bachelors Degree from UCA.  She just finished interning at Heifer International at Morrilton and is soon headed to Texas to intern in a green building development.

I served as a Cubmaster in the Boy Scouts, soccer, baseball, and football coach in Little League, and worked concession stands for the Athletic Booster Club and Band Booster Clubs at Cutter and Lakeside.

I am active in my church. Jana and I have both taught Sunday School and were the Youth Pastors for over 10 years. I have served on the church board, currently teach the adult Sunday School class and serve as Associate Pastor. Jana and I both love sports and have played in the church league in softball, volleyball, and basketball for many years. We also love living out in the country with plenty of elbow room and deer, wolves, bear, and other assorted wildlife wondering through their yard. When we can find the time we ride our ATV's and are huge Razorback football fans.

Even though we have done some traveling both in and out of the country we have found no place we would rather be and raise our family than right here in Arkansas. I am highly committed to protecting our Arkansas way of life.
