American Geophysical Union (AGU) and Wiley-Blackwell, Inc. announced that the AGU has selected Wiley-Blackwell as its publishing partner for its portfolio of journals and books. The new partnership will be effective January 2013, subject to completion of a publishing agreement in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding signed recently. The AGU, publishes 17 journals for the global research community and an extensive book program in Earth and space science under the Geopress imprint. Subject to the finalization of the agreement, Wiley-Blackwell will assume responsibility for AGU's journal publishing activities in January 2013, collaborating closely on new product and delivery models, subscription fulfillment, production, content management, sales and marketing, and distribution. AGU will retain control and ownership of all its journals and the scientific aspects of publishing including editorial control and oversight by AGU governance. A separate agreement is being negotiated for partnership on AGU's book publishing program. Both will help to support AGU's wide array of member services and programs to advance scholarly communication.
