Acute coughs usually last about 18 days
UGA's Mark Ebell examined the gap in patient expectations and the actual length of time the body takes to rid itself of a chest cold. His results show that most patients expect to cough for seven to nine days. In reality, a bronchial illness takes closer to 18 days on average to run its course.

Helen Evans of the Metropolitan Museum of Art will present a visiting artist/scholar lecture Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in Room S151 at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Evans is a specialist in early Christian, Byzantine and Armenian art and has lectured widely in the U.S. and abroad.
Women’s tennis team hosts invitational
The UGA women’s tennis team will open its 2013 indoor season by hosting the Georgia Invitational Jan. 18 to 20 at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts. The three-day round-robin singles and doubles tournament is free.
Ballet Theatre of Russia to perform ‘Cinderella'
The State Ballet Theatre of Russia has drawn critical praise in tours around the world. A favorite with Athens audiences, the company returns with its enchanting fully staged production of "Cinderella" Jan. 15-16 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre at the Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices are $49-$59.
