Recertification

The AOBR is authorized by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to examine candidates for certification & recertification in the following categories:

Primary Certification
Diagnostic Radiology
Radiation Oncology

Recertification is offered on a voluntary basis to diplomates certified in Diagnostic Radiology or Radiation Oncology holding certificates issued prior to 2002.  Diplomates certified in 2002 and thereafter must satisfactorily complete the recertification process during the ten (10) year period of their time-limited certificate in order for certification to be continuously valid. Candidates initially certified in radiology, diagnostic radiology, roentgenology, or diagnostic roentgenology will be examined in and recertified in diagnostic radiology. Candidates initially certified in radiology may elect to be examined in and recertified in radiation oncology if this is the practice pattern of the candidate. Application for examination may be obtained by contacting the AOBR Office at 800-258-2627.

Recertification is offered on a voluntary basis to those diplomates holding CAQ certificates issued prior to 2001. Diplomates certified in 2001 or thereafter, must satisfactorily complete the recertification process during the ten (10) year period of their time-limited certificate in order for certification to be continuously valid. For further information regarding the recertification examination in one of the subspecialty areas, please contact the AOBR.

The Certificate

The American Osteopathic Board of Radiology (AOBR) is authorized to examine and recommend candidates for certification and recertification to the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists (BOS)  of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).  The AOA is the official certifying body of the osteopathic profession. 

Candidates who successfully pass a recertification exam will be issued a recertification certificate valid for a period of ten years.  Recertification certificates will become valid upon the expiration of the diplomates original certification certificate.
