Exclusive: Toy Story 4, 5 Planned for 2013 and 2014 (But It's Not What You Think)

Pixar is developing two original, 22-minute television specials starring the characters of Toy Story. They will air (presumably on either ABC or the Disney Channel) in October 2013 and Spring 2014.

As if that weren't enough, "three new Toy Story Toons are in development", all this according to a book industry e-catalogue from Disney Publishing Worldwide.

These specials are the ones Pixar president Ed Catmull suggested Pixar Canada could do back when the satellite studio opened in 2010.

Thanks to reader Taylor B. for the tip. No, it was not "old news".

Update (Jul. 18): Naturally, the page has been edited to delete the reference to the unannounced specials.

Specials don't sound as bad as a feature length movie. Should be an interesting test of Pixar Canada's strength as an animation studio. I know they worked on Small Fry, but as far as I know, the story was done in Emeryville, but the animation was handled by the Vancouver studio...?

I'm super excited about this. We love the characters, we want to see more of them... just not in another feature.
This is gonna be perfect.

This sounds perfect, a great opportunity to revisit these characters without ruining the trilogy. Even if these are disappointing this is great news as it makes Toy Story 4 less likely!

The title scared the friggin' crap out of me. It seriously made my heart sink. I DO NOT want another movie, it ended so perfectly.

Specials on the other hand, and more toons sounds like the perfect way to get more from the Toy Story universe without spoiling the trilogy's story arc. I'm excited!

Phew! That was a good move from Pixar. Seems like pretty much every fan will be pleased to see more of the characters, without actually releasing another feature. I'm glad the Toy Story 4 rumor turned out this way.

Yes, this is great news. It seems that this is where all of the Toy Story 4 rumors have gone. Another film really isn't needed, but I fully support the idea of more shorts and TV specials. If Hawaiian Vacation and Small Fry were any indication, these will be up to Pixar standards.

Very very misleading to call it 4 and 5 in the title. Blatantly misleading. Shame on you. Change it. Perhaps call it "Toy Story" followups?

oh, light'n up anonymous 5 ... I think the title is fine. it made me smile when I saw what he meant. it's a wink to all the rumors.

Thank you.

I think it might've been Mike's intention to scare the living daylights out of us with the title. I was relieved and excited after I read the article though.

Please change the title. It is misleading and irresponsible journalism. Replace "4, 5" with "TV Specials." And this isn't an exclusive. Again, misleading.

You people are crazy. I would love 10 more Toy Story feature films. Everyone has gotten better and better. Each one ended perfectly to me, but that doesn't mean a new adventure can't be had.
