"I was working out with my trainer this morning," Garner, 40, said at the premiere of The Odd Life of Timothy Green, which hits theaters Aug. 15. "And she was like 'Yeah, I think it's time. I think we need to put some pleather on!' "
Trainer Valerie Waters credits Garner's enviable figure to the actress's consistent workouts during and after pregnancy.
"She's looking so amazing right now," says Waters, who's worked with Garner for more than a decade. "She looks strong and sexy, and I like that she's rocking her Lycra again!"
Garner may have jumped back into exercising four weeks after having Samuel, but she started slow. "The first couple workouts were 15 to 20 minutes," says Waters, who has since increased the sessions to 40 minutes, three to four times a week.
Aside from cardio twice a week, a typical workout might include a strength training circuits using weights, exercise bands and Waters's ValSlide training tool.
"Getting out of the sweats and into the leggings was a big step," says Waters.
Kids Exercise, Too
When it comes to staying fit, Violet, 6, and Seraphina, 3, look to be taking after their mother."We have tiny little weights for them, and they'll come in and lift them over their heads," says the trainer. "They're so cute and they definitely like to do what Mommy likes to do, for sure."
As for her diet, Garner eats mostly organic, with a minimum of processed foods. To curb cravings, she keeps bowls of fresh veggies and fruit – like cantaloupe and raspberries – around the house for easy access.
"Jen can cook, so she's able to make healthy meals that are balanced," says Waters. "She makes the most perfect scrambled eggs, with a little avocado on the side."
"We're at a fine-tuning, sculpting stage now," she adds. "She's strong and can kick it into gear – no question, bring it on!"
