No representations or warranties are given by the University of Pretoria regarding the accuracy of the information contained on this website, any material provided for on this website or any part of this web site. Any reliance by the user on any information contained on this website, any material provided for on this website or any part of this web site, is at the user’s own risk and the University of Pretoria shall have no liability of whatsoever nature to the user or any other person, directly or indirectly, arising out of the utilisation of the information contained on this website, any material provided for on this website or any part of this website.

The user hereby agrees that in the event of any dispute arising out of the utilisation of this website in whatsoever manner, form or substance, the South African law will apply and the appropriate courts of South Africa will have jurisdiction.

B. E-commerce facility disclaimer of www.up.co.za

By accessing this e-commerce facility and by continuing to use the service the user aknowledge that he/she have read this agreement, understand it and that he/she have agreed to, adhere to all the terms and conditions of this website as well as any other applicable terms and conditions of the University of Pretoria. The University of Pretoria may, in its sole discretion, change this agreement or any part thereof at any time withtout notice.

1. The use of an account

The purpose of an account on this e-commerce facility is to engage in online transactions through the payment gateway. The University of Pretoria sells services to adults, who purchase these with a credit card. If you are under 18 years of age, you may use the University of Pretoria e-commerce facility but only under your parent's or guardian's supervision. The University of Pretoria reserves the right to at any time to terminate accounts, remove or edit content or cancel orders in this event at our sole discretion.


2. Payment options and pricing

Transactions will be processed in South African Rand (ZAR). Payments in other currencies will be processed on the foreign exchange spot rate of the day. The following forms of payment may be used:

2.1 Credit Card

We accept MasterCard and VISA credit cards. If you do not have a credit card please utilise the EFT payment options.

2.2 EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer)

In order to pay via EFT, you will have to load the University of Pretoria as a beneficiary on your internet banking and use the unique order number you received on screen or in a confirmation e-mail in the reference line for your payment. This should ensure speedy processing of your registration.

2.3 Direct Deposit

You may also pay by way of a direct deposit. It’s exactly the same as doing an EFT payment, except you’ll have to go into your bank and physically make your direct deposit there. Please send proof of payment to the contact person indicated on the site where you engaged in the transaction to ensure your payment is confirmed as soon as possible.

3. Protection against viruses/worms or trojan horses

The University of Pretoria is continuously running updated anti-virus software and does not accept responsibility for information not free of infection by viruses, worms, Trojan horses or anything else with manifesting, contaminating or destructive properties.

4. Refund policy

In the case of bookings or registrations, all cancellations must be e-mailed to the e-mail address provided in the confirmation e-mail you received on booking or the contact e-mail indicated on the website. A written cancelation may also be faxed to the contact person indicated in the confirmation e-mail. If a cancellation is received 14 days before the start of the event, a cancellation fee of 10% will be charged. Cancellations received on or after 14 days before the start of the event will not receive a refund. Name changes will not be accepted, unless the participant is from the same institution. All refunds will be processed after the event.


5. Links

External hyperlinks may be provided on the site. You shall not interpret such hyperlinking as constituting any relationship between the University of Pretoria and any linked third party or any endorsement by the University of Pretoria of such a third party. Use of or reliance on any external links provided is at your own risk.

6. Security policy

The transmission of data over the Internet is unfortunately not 100% secure and the University of Pretoria will not guarantee the security of any information transmitted. The University of Pretoria does undertake to ensure personal information and/or credit card details are protected and not misused in any way as far as possible.

7. Legal agreement

You agree that this transaction constitutes an electronic transaction as defined in the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 2002 (as amended) and that a binding agreement has been concluded between the University of Pretoria and you in terms of which you authorize the University of Pretoria with whom a transaction has been entered into to deduct from, or to debit, the credit card the amount owing for services rendered or to be rendered and that your written signature shall not be required for authorisation purposes.

C. Donations to the University of Pretoria


You can support the University of Pretoria by making a donation either through the online donation service, electronic fund transfers (EFT) or direct deposits.

In order to donate via EFT, you will load the University of Pretoria as a beneficiary on your internet banking. Use the appeal number, which is located next to the project you wish to support, on this website as a reference. The reference number ensures that your donation is directed to the correct project or appeal. Please ensure that you quote the correct reference number. In the event of you inserting the incorrect reference number, please contact the Department of Institutional Advancement at 012 420 5528 or ninette.mouton@up.ac.za to correct the reference numbers. You will receive an e-mail confirmation of your donation within seven (7) working days.

1. Agreement

This agreement is a contract between donors and the University of Pretoria and applies to the use of online donation services and electronic fund transfers (EFT).

By using this website, you consent to these terms and conditions. You use the online donation services and EFT at your own risk and we shall not be liable for any damages that you may suffer except for damage caused by our negligence or intent. If you have any queries regarding the security and privacy, please email ninette.mouton@up.ac.za or telephone the Department of Institutional Advancement at 012 420 2768.

2. Authorisation

By completing the online donation form, you agree that you are 21 years old, and have obtained the necessary authority, should authorisation be required, to make an online donation. The University reserves the right to decline or return donations at its sole discretion.

3. Disclosure Policy

If you give us personal information in order to make an online donation – such as your name, home address or email address – we undertake not to share these details with any third party, other than those necessary to record and process your donation.

Should your personal information be disclosed to any third party through any action beyond our reasonable control – such as unauthorised access to our data basis- you indemnify and hold us against any damage you may suffer as a result of such disclosure.

We may from time to time send e-mails announcing new projects and campaigns and giving feedback to supporters. Other than this, the Department of Institutional Advancement at the University of Pretoria will not send you e-mails that you have not agreed to receive. You may opt out of receiving these e-mails at any time, by e-mailing ninette.mouton@up.ac.za with ‘remove’ in the subject line.


4. Refunds

Donations are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled or returned once it has been completed. If you become aware of fraudulent use of your card, or if it is lost or stolen, you must notify your card provider in accordance with its reporting rules.

Please note that the University of Pretoria reserves the right to use your donation for general purposes, unless the donor stipulates that are earmarked for a particular appeal.

5. Invoices

By using the online donations service, you are making a donation to the University of Pretoria. Donors are not eligible for invoices, but receive tax certificates in accordance with the Income Tax Act. If you wish to receive an invoice, the University will regard your support as a sponsorship. Sponsors are not eligible for tax certificates.

6. Tax information

The University of Pretoria is not an accounting, taxation or financial advisor. You should not rely on the information on this site to determine the accounting, tax or financial consequences of making a donation. We strongly recommend that you consult your own advisor about any accounting, taxation or financial consequences that may affect you.
