The University of Pretoria celebrated its Centenary in 2008 and had prestigious events to commemorate this milestone.

From humble beginnings in 1908 when 32 students enrolled for courses at the Pretoria branch of the Transvaal University College, the forerunner of the present University of Pretoria, the institution has grown into a leader in tertiary education. Today more than 50 000 students study in the nine faculties and business school for the 371 undergraduate and 1 522 postgraduate study programmes on offer.
