Ryan Gosling and the 'Drive' bomber jacket.

When you watch a movie like Drive, it's easy to admire director Nicolas Winding Refn's polished artistic vision or the fine acting (and the fiiiiiiine face/bod/everything) of Ryan Gosling. But we'd like to call your attention to the work of costume designer Erin Benach, particularly the iconic white satin jacket which Ryan's character, Driver, wears throughout the film. A recent interview with Benach revealed the gargantuan efforts behind its creation (clearly, you do not just buy a jacket like that off the rack). And whaddaya know, "special and awesome and unique" Ryan (Benach's words, though we certainly agree) was totally involved in the process. "We discuss everything beforehand," Benach, who has worked with Ryan before on Blue Valentine and Half Nelson, coos. Hmph.

Snooki gets into a car accident in Italy.
Photo: MTV

Last week's episode of Jersey Shore ended just as Snooki was smashing into the back of an Italian cop car. Girl was getting breathalized, there were talks of the crew getting kicked out of Italy, the boys rushed her most important documents to the scene of the crime... Needless to say, it was Drama with a capital "D" for sure. But in all the hubbub, we neglected to give proper note to these BONKERS chained up sunnies she's wearing mid-crash. Um, HAI. *waves* Want. Except, could they have possibly contributed to the accident? Hmm... we'll turn a blind eye this time, Snooks, and trust that the brake was really malfunctioning, but next time, maybe relegate these to pedestrian outings. Never one to disappoint, Snooki didn't stop there and kept the style running on all cylinders for the rest of the ep.

Martha Stewart on the cover of her Halloween issue.
Photo: Courtesy of Martha Stewart

So, this happened: Martha Stewart's creepily smiling visage graces the cover of her Halloween issue while ENORMOUS BUTTERFLY WINGS are glued to her eyelids. Below her, the text reads: "Introducing Motha the Winged Wonder." I'm sorry, but Motha, the "Winged Wonder?" What does that Motha f***ing even MEAN? Is this a for REAL costume because we're prettttyyyy sure if we dressed up as Motha and wore it around people would be like, "OH SHIZ, DUDE. YOU GOT SOME BUTTERFLIES ALL UP ON YOU, MAN." And then they would try to swat at our faces, and we'd have to gently explain that we're "Motha, the Winged Wonder," and people's eyebrows and foreheads would scrunch together and they'd be like, "Ohh.. from, like, a TV show?" "No." "Oh, a book?" "No." "A movie?" "No." "The internet?" "No. From Martha Stewart... the magazine." Then they'd give you a side eye and be like, "Oh.....kay." And even if they DID ask for further explanation you couldn't explain it! Because NOT EVEN MARTHA KNOWS WHAT THAT MEANS. *gasps for breath* Also, is anyone else scared to see what the other 125 "captivating costumes" are in this issue? Because we certainly are.

If you need to adorable-ize (what? That's a word.) any outfit in a snap, turn to a Peter Pan collar. These rounded collars offer a touch of vintage girliness to any ensemble and are super simple to style with literally anything. You can pair them with sweaters, skirts, jumpers—nothing is off limits! It was SO hard to pick only three looks that were our favorite, but we're sure you'll agree that their out-of-the-box styling will inspire you pick up something with a Peter Pan collar immediately after reading this.

Britons love their millinery like they love eating canned legumes swimming in phlegmy tomato sauce on toast. And while we do maintain that Philip Treacy is a genius (despite the giggle-fracas stirred by Princess Beatrice's hat at the Royal Wedding), we gotta say, some of the headgear from London Fashion Week (which ended yesterday) is beyond HILARZ. Let's take a gander at some of our favorites.

ANGRY BIRDS AT GILES

At Giles (sidenote: I LOVE Giles Deacon and consider him to be a STAR [and I loved his work at JCDC]), we saw a parade of feathers and some truly exceptional, dramatic silhouettes and interesting layering techniques but this? This writhing, blood-red swan atop some poor model's dome after all that avian imagery we've had for the last YEAR from Black Swan? It feels a little done. Totally makes me wish it were a puffin.

Ke$ha at the Baby G watch launch in San Francisco on Sept. 14, 2011, and Lady Gaga on the cover of "V Magazine."
Photo: Couresty of Baby-G / John Storey / V Magazine

We're not claiming that the stylized fashion cues of Ke$ha and Lady Gaga would immediately be attempted by normals, but is gluing a pile of sparkles onto your forehead and cheeks so as to resemble a doughnut, cupcake, or sundae going to be a thing now?

First Gaga's scintillating visage graced the cover of V, then Ke$ha shows up in the Bay promoting her new watch collaboration similarly adorned with a be-beaded mug, and we can't help but wonder if face sprinkles (or "jimmies" if you hail from New England) are going to catch on. With sequins and shards storming the runways on the skinny-minnie torsos of many a model at New York Fashion Week it would seem a logical next move for those bits of glint to migrate upward given that face glitter is now as much a mainstay as it is mainstream.

All we can say is that we happily welcome anything that makes pop stars look as if their features are complemented by shiny tectonic plates that can shift as they smize. Plus, we heartily support anything that makes the famous faces that we stalk online look like confections. Mostly because we are famished. Now, if only cats would jump on the bandwagon because that ish would be SO CUTE. Also, conflicting because if cats made us hungry that would make us SO ALF Not that being a cannibal is any better. No disrespect to those of you who eat people because, really, what do we know about your lives?

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian at Bloomingdale's on Sept. 21.
Photo: WireImage

Is your ponytail heavy? Does your neck need a little extra support on those tiresome days? Do you want to hide your bad hair day under layers of gold chains so no one will notice? Well, we've got the solution for you—a ponytail hammock! Now, you may think, "Ponytail hammock? That doesn't sound very pretty." Well, friends, it can be, thanks to Kim Kardashian. The reality TV star collaborated with jewelry designer Pascal Mouawad for a collection called Belle Noel, which sells buttloads of ponytail hammocks in both gold AND silver for around $45. Just yesterday Kim decorated her shiny pony with the gold "Nugget Hair Comb" while stopping by Bloomingdale's in celebration of her Belle Noel collection. But you know what? This kind of puts us in pickle. Now we can't decide which hair accessory is more unnecessary—the ponytail hammock or the head thong. *scratches head* What do you think?

+ Would you wear a ponytail hammock like Kim Kardashian?

Snooki wearing pale frosty lips.
Photo: Courtesy of Snooki's Twitter

Seeing the words "Snooki" and "pale" in the same sentence is, I think, surprising to the point of reality-bending. Like, I'm expecting the walls to start melting and crying at any moment, and yet all things are the same save the juxtaposition of these two words. I guess I should be a little less freaked out since the paleness is relegated to the Snookster's lips and not the entirety of her prized bronze skin, but still. Shocking, right?? Our Jersey Shore princess has been rocking this frosted lipstick look for at least a couple weeks now, and we're still shuffling our feet, not sure how we feel about it.

Jessie J and Nicki Minaj wear animal hoods.

If there's one thing in life of which I'm certain, it's that the animal hood craze will never die. There will always be girls—and guys (we see you, Jared Leto!)—eager to sport furry ears and a cute little animal face on their heads. A year ago, we caught Khloe Kardashian and Ke$ha facing off in SpiritHoods. Now we're debating between two favorites, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, both of whom recently took a walk on the wild side.

Taylor Lautner's beard from both sides at the "Abduction" premiere on Sept. 15.
Photo: Getty Images

Something hairy is going on with Taylor Lautner, guys. When we spotted him at an Abduction premiere a couple days ago we noticed he had, like, stuff on his face. We were all, "Ew, what is that? Lint? Cat hair?" Thanks to our incredible zooming capabilities (aka Photoshop), we were able to uncover that the "stuff" on his face was actually hair. Or, as some say, "beard." But is Tay Tay actually trying to grow a beard to warm up for the winter months or is it just a little 5 o'clock shadow from a day of not shaving? Well, let's take a closer look, friends. (Personally we'll find ANY excuse to stare at Mr. Lautner for lengthy periods of time.)
