Awarding screen excellence in Australia
The Australian Film Institute (AFI) has been recognising and awarding Australian screen excellence through the AFI Awards since 1958.
In August 2011, the AFI launched the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), with the aim of elevating the status of Australian film and television nationally and internationally, thereby creating greater recognition and opportunities for our talented industry, and creating a stronger link between audiences and great Australian content.
Following the establishment of AACTA, this year (2011) will mark the inauguration of the AACTA Awards, which are a continuum of the AFI Awards. AACTA will continue to celebrate the proud heritage established by the AFI Awards, and a list of past AFI Award winners can be found on the
AACTA website.
The 2011 AACTA Awards will be held in January 2012, and the Awards cycle is underway as usual.
The latest information regarding the AACTA Awards (including screenings and voting information, as well as information on the Byron Kennedy and Raymond Longford Awards) is now featured on the new AACTA website.
However, during this transition period, the AFI website continues to house the following information for ease of reference.
