Political and Security Affairs (PSA)
The Political and Security Affairs (PSA) group advances NBR’s mission of informing and strengthening policy by engaging in innovative, forward-looking policy research on political and security issues in Asia of critical importance to U.S. interests. The group’s research focuses on three broad areas: Asian Security, Politics in Asia, and Muslim Asia.
Why PSA?
The PSA group draws from a network of top Asia studies specialists and international relations experts to assemble project teams based on their areas of expertise. This flexible approach allows for innovative research with a global reach that extends throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe, bringing directly to policy leaders actionable research on a range of strategic issues. Exclusive reliance on a network-of-experts model sets NBR apart from organizations that occasionally engage in collaborative research with scholars not resident within their own programs. A blind, outside peer-review process further ensures that all project research is nonpartisan and fact-based. The result is first-class, policy-oriented research conducted in a cost-effective manner. Moreover, the scale of work availed by the model is rapidly expandable to meet sponsor requirements.
Impact
PSA research and analyses are broadly disseminated to the government as well as to the academic and corporate communities to better inform the development of U.S. policies in the Asia-Pacific region. The research and scholars are leveraged to enhance analytical capabilities through project-related conferences and workshops, publications, and briefings.
