Congressional Outreach
NBR’s origins date back to Senator Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson, who identified the urgent need for an institution that would tap the best Asia expertise to inform and strengthen policy decisions on issues affecting U.S. interests in the region. Building on Senator Jackson's legacy, NBR engages in a demand-driven approach to reach out to Congress and cultivate relationships on both sides of the aisle. Through sustained interaction in high-trust, nonpartisan settings, NBR is a go-to resource for policymakers needing reliable and useful Asia expertise.

Policy Impact

NBR provides Congressional offices and staff with:

  • Tailored briefings and consultations from NBR's network of experts
  • Staff education from partnerships with Congressional study groups and Caucuses
  • High-profile opportunities for Members to speak on U.S. policy interests in Asia
  • Opportunity to inform NBR’s research agenda with legislative concerns

We would like to express our deep gratitude for the partnerships and counsel given by many Members of Congress who served on the Board of Advisors over the years, dating back to the founding of NBR.
